A Lexington County, S.C. school bus carrying the White Knoll High School varsity soccer team suffered a radiator failure en route to a match against Lugoff-Elgin High School.

Eighteen student-athletes, three coaches and a bus driver were aboard the bus at the time of the incident – which resulted in six students sustaining injuries that required medical treatment.

The incident occurred on Interstate 20 in Kershaw County, S.C. near White Pond Road.  Kershaw County’s school district sent a bus to pick up the uninjured student-athletes and transport them to safety.

“White Knoll High School coaches and administrators are in contact with the soccer players and their parents/ guardians and are keeping them updated,” Lexington school district spokesperson Mary Beth Hill said in a statement.  “The safety and well-being of our students is always our first concern, and we are keeping these students and their families in our thoughts.”

Hill added that she was “grateful for the help” of the Kershaw school district.
