“BALLOONS OVER ANDERSON” IS COMING …

Remember “Freedom Weekend Aloft?” This government-subsidized balloon festival went “pop” a few years ago when the company putting on the event declared bankruptcy and canceled future installments “due to lack of attendance.”

It was ugly.

Vendors didn’t get paid.  The city of Simpsonville, S.C. got stiffed on rent.  And of course South Carolina taxpayers once again found themselves picking a “loser” in the marketplace.

Anyway … South Carolinians looking to get their balloon fix are in luck.  Next weekend (October 7-9) the “Balloons Over Anderson” festival is coming to, well … Anderson, S.C.

Twenty hot air balloons will participate in this year’s event, making multiple scheduled flights (and yes, if you’ve got $200 to spare you can sign up to ride in one of them).

Too rich for your blood?  Helicopter rides will also be available for a far more manageable $20 fee.

For those looking to save their money (and stay on the ground), the event will also feature live music, food, vendors, inflatables and the “World’s Tallest Pinball Machine.”

Carolina Dronz will also be giving demonstrations of unmanned aerial devices, providing drone training and giving away one small drone each day of the festival.

Pretty cool …

“Balloons over Anderson” will be held at the Anderson Civic Center (3027 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard) in Anderson, S.C.  The festival begins at 3:00 p.m. EDT on Friday, October 7 and runs through 10:00 p.m. EDT Sunday, October 9. Admission and parking are free.  For more information contact organizers via email.
