KING TUT’S DAGGER “NOT OF THIS WORLD”

There are some who believe Bronze Age civilizations built the great pyramids in Egypt’s Old Kingdom more than four-thousand years ago.  Others – including fans of the 1994 cult classic “Stargate” – believe the massive structures were the work of aliens.

What’s not up for debate?  The fact that these three edifices – the oldest of the “Seven Wonders of the Ancient World” (and the last ones standing) – continue to confound historians, archaeologists, engineers and mathematicians alike.  Their sheer size and precise measurements defy comprehension … and invite mystery.

One discovery likely to further that mystery is a new report from Italian and Egyptian researchers confirming that a dagger found in the grave of the boy pharaoh Tutankhamun was made from a meteorite.

“Our finding confirms that excavations of important burials, including that of King Tutankhamun, have uncovered pre-Iron Age artifacts of meteoritic origin,”  the researchers noted.

“The ancient Egyptians, in the wake of other ancient people of the Mediterranean area, were aware that these rare chunks of iron fell from the sky,” the researchers continued, adding that the civilization “attributed great value to meteoritic iron for the production of fine ornamental or ceremonial objects.”

The dagger belonging to “King Tut” was first found in 1925.  The latest revelation regarding its origin comes as scientists have been conducting “cosmic particle scans” on Khufu’s Pyramid – the largest of the three great pyramids at the Giza necropolis.

Their goal?  To determine whether there are previously undiscovered tunnels and burial chambers hiding beneath some of the structure’s massive stones.
