ALLEN UNIVERSITY, FACEBOOK WILL HOST EVENT …
A pair of top-tier presidential candidates will participate in a “justice forum” on the campus of Allen University in downtown Columbia, S.C. later this month.
Attending the event will be retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson, who is running as a “Republican,” and independent socialist U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders, who is running for the Democratic presidential nomination. Also appearing? Former Maryland governor Martin O’Malley, another Democratic candidate.
According to event organizers, the forum intends to “bring more attention to the issue of criminal justice reform,” and to “connect voters around the country with the candidates participating in the event.”
To facilitate those connections, Facebook will join the 20/20 Club in hosting the event. The latter group was formed this year as a response to the “Black Lives Matter” movement.
“To have a serious conversation about criminal justice reform, community policing, the militarization of police, the oxygen is being taken up by a group that doesn’t understand what it’s going to take to actually make this happen,” the 20/20 Club’s GOP co-founder told The Daily Caller back in September.
The group’s “justice forum” will be held at 1:00 p.m. EST on Saturday, November 21 on the campus of the historically black college (1530 Harden Street, Columbia, S.C.).
Both of the top tier candidates participating in this event are in need of some good news. Carson’s campaign – which pulled into a tie nationally with the campaign of GOP frontrunner Donald Trump – was rocked last week by allegations that key portions of his personal narrative had been fabricated. Meanwhile recent polling showed Sanders trailing Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton by a 10-to-1 margin among black voters in the Palmetto State.
Although seen as a more moderate Democrat, Clinton has embraced the “Black Lives Matter” movement.
