REALITY STAR REFUSES TO PRESS CHARGES … THEN THREATENS TO SUE CITY
|| By FITSNEWS || Former S.C. treasurer and reality television star Thomas Ravenel was attacked at a Charleston, S.C. nightclub, according to a police report obtained by The (Charleston, S.C.) City Paper.
According to the report, the star of Bravo television’s Southern Charm show was verbally accosted by an as-yet-unidentified male at the Republic Garden and Lounge in downtown Charleston last Monday evening. As staff at the bar were removing the man from the premises, he allegedly slipped free and head-butted Ravenel in the face.
Police responded to the incident, apprehending the alleged assailant from a nearby street corner and bringing him back to the bar – where Ravenel identified him.
“That’s the guy who hit me,” he told police.
Multiple witnesses corroborated Ravenel’s identification of the alleged assailant.
The man, identified only as “Mike,” initially denied attacking Ravenel – but later admitted it, saying the reality television star “deserved it.”
Police arrested the man for simple assault, but Ravenel refused to press charges – at least initially – citing his celebrity status and the likelihood the altercation would be misrepresented in the media.
“I can’t press charges. I can’t do anything. I just have to get my face disfigured,” he told the City Paper. “I can’t defend myself because of the show and who I am.”
According to WCSC TV 5 (CBS – Charleston, S.C.), though, Ravenel decided two hours later that he did wish to press charges – and asked police to “re-arrest” his assailant.
“I want him to sit in jail all night so he can think about what he’s done,” Ravenel told police.
When they refused his request, Ravenel threatened to sue the city for $10 million.
According to the City Paper, Ravenel was reportedly struck so hard by his assailant that his left eye was swollen shut. However the WCSC report references only a “visible abrasion” under the eye.
It’s been an eventful summer for the 53-year-old playboy, who was involved in a scuffle in Florida last month outside of the Emerald Grande hotel in Destin, Florida. He’s also been battling with Kathryn Calhoun Dennis, his 24-year-old co-star, ex-girlfriend and scion of two of South Carolina’s most influential families. Dennis is rumored to be pregnant with the couple’s second child – reports which were exclusively reported on FITS back in May.

Will states T-Rav’s eye was swollen shut, WIS reports that a cop saw a slight abrasion and when T-Rav decided to press charges two hours later he was told they couldn’t re-arrest the guy and T-Rav said he’s going to sue Charleston for $10 million.
