BUT DID SHE DO IT ON PURPOSE?

|| By FITSNEWS || We’ll have a post up soon on the real news associated with former Florida governor Jeb Bush‘s visit to early-voting South Carolina this week, but first we had to address the colossal pooch screw committed by S.C. governor Nikki Haley during his trip.

Haley – who we believe is likely to endorse Wisconsin governor Scott Walker – butchered Bush’s visit by taking him to Sistercare, a battered womens’ shelter in Cayce, S.C.

Wait … what’s wrong with that?  How is visiting a battered womens’ facility a bad thing?

Well, despite wielding an embarrassingly anemic veto pen during her first four years in office Haley managed to cut funding in 2012 to twenty-three rape and domestic violence crisis centers across the state.

Among them? Yup, Sistercare …

“Governor Haley has stooped to an all-time low by bringing a Presidential candidate to a women’s shelter that she tried to defund,” S.C. Rep. Mia McLeod said.  “South Carolina ranks number two in the nation for women killed by men, and we don’t need self-serving, overly-ambitious politicians like Nikki Haley, pimping domestic violence shelters and the women and children they serve, just to get another five minutes of fame on national television.  These shelters need funding, not lip service and a photo op from a Governor who’s doing nothing more than auditioning for her next job.”

Wow …

We agree with McLeod.  Well, mostly.  We believe men who kill women (and women who kill men) in cold-blooded premeditation deserve efficient justice.

But that’s another story …

Obviously, this isn’t the first time Haley has been ripped for her hypocrisy on this issue … in fact it’s not the first time she’s been ripped for this specific funding hypocrisy … which makes it all the more baffling why she would take Bush to Sistercare (unless of course she wanted to turn his visit into a controversy).

Hmmmm …

And that, frankly, makes it baffling to us that Bush’s campaign – which is supposed to be a top shelf operation – didn’t see this goat rodeo coming from a mile away.

Seriously …

Anyway, like we said we’ll have a post soon on what we view as the real story associated with Bush’s visit … but given the extent to which politicos in the Palmetto State are buzzing over Haley’s flub, we had to get something up on it.

I won’t vote for another Bush. I’m telling you I will stay home first. I think this is a dog and pony show.

In the end, when we see who all the candidates are, wonder where she will be? My guess? Unless she has an offer as VP, right beside Jeb. I like Haley, I understand the game she plays. It’s hardball.

Will be interesting to watch it unfold.

It appears anything Governor Haley does, according to this site, is wrong. Get real, Fits, what does it matter where she takes anyone, including presidential aspirants. Must not be much stirring out there today to arouse the negativity of your mostly liberal following, Fits.

Haley isn’t a moron, even when I HORRIBLE disagree with her, she isn’t dumb. Even the most liberal must recognize, she knows how to work a system. Do I agree with her all the time? No, absolutely not.

However, when you look at what Rep. McLeod wants, it is more money. She wants to fund EVERY thing. Where is this money going to come from?

As a capitalist, and many who are objective capitalist will horrible disagree, but still act the same….

We pay taxes to the government. They use those taxes as incentives to force us (states/individuals) to comply with whatever crap they cook up.

I would take their money, my money, state money, and any other given money, available. I would make every effort to avoid strings attached, but I would not cut off my hand to spite my arm.

Tangerine March 17, 2015 at 6:56 pm

Tangerine March 17, 2015 at 8:05 pm

I think you meant CDV? I’m not sure if money would? In some cases maybe, but I think that is up to the families to provide. In cases where families CANNOT, then I do think that is a role of government.

Call me what you will, my thoughts are my own, I am sure many have a label for me – but I do think for myself.

Tangerine March 17, 2015 at 8:07 pm

Mom, what is your answer for CDV? What solutions can you provide? Unless we have answers, why even question?

Mom March 18, 2015 at 5:20 pm

CDV is nothing new. Back in the day men beat women and the women were made to believe it was somehow their fault. Women kept it secret because they were embarrassed. I donate to Sistercare because I believe we as a civilized society are called to take care of victims. For the victims who forgive their assailant again and again, no one can help them. As frustrating as it is, their are no solutions for some cases.

a face in the crowd March 17, 2015 at 6:40 pm

You are desperately attempting to justify the behaviors of a governor who has repeatedly wronged the very state she represents. She is a bought-and-paid-for Koch brothers opportunist who is governor because Sarah Palin visited the state and told people to vote for her. I actually hope she attempts to go national with her political ambitions, just so a real news media can take her hypocrisy apart.

Tangerine March 17, 2015 at 6:56 pm

Please, I need to add Koch to my earlier comment – that is flat out embarrassing that you even think that way.

I used to admire Palin, voted for McCain because I liked her. She was/is smart. Politics was breaking her bank account. She got out, of office, and still has a voice and more money.

More power to Palin – a woman I think does care.

Taylor is quite attractive, and she writes compellingly on the subject of sexual assaults on campus and elsewhere. I admire her strong and uncompromising stand on that vital issue, as it is often not in keeping with the thinking of so many in the conservative ranks of the GOP.

You know, the bunch that thinks a woman’s vagina is connected directly to her mouth, that women can only get pregnant if they enjoy the sex, that it’s OK to sell an adopted child to a molesting single male, because she’s previously been molested and she is “damaged goods”, etc. You know, the backwards and aggressively (often malignantly) ignorant American Christian Conservative Taliban.

Reply
a face in the crowd March 17, 2015 at 6:45 pm

No. Haley did that because she wants the news media to believe she cares about violence against women. The national media have identified South Carolina as one of the worst states for men killing women, and as a woman, Haley knows she must put up a pretense of action in order to further her political ambitions.

Reply
The Colonel March 17, 2015 at 6:49 pm

Hence the assessment as “self serving genius”.

She has actually taken some affirmative actions and spending money on homes for battered women frankly won’t stop the problem. Dealing with the assholes who hit women early and severely will.

“Genius” is word that will never apply to Haley. She is getting advice from political insiders and does whatever will benefit her. Tangerine March 17, 2015 at 7:09 pm

Define genius from your point of view?

Buz Martin March 18, 2015 at 7:13 am

She, like Sarah Palin, has a genius for self-promotion. She is actually a much greedier person than Palin, however. But she is also more intrinsically intelligent. She lacks Palin’s charisma, and is not nearly as hot. Palin is aging remarkably well. Nikki … meh. Still hot, but it appears that a few more years will sink that.

Palin is mainly a good campaigner. She has a few truly bad marks against her from her past, but if she were smarter she could have overcome all of them. Smart as Haley is, there is simply no way she would ever be elected POTUS or VPOTUS. Her record of double-dealings and gross violations of ethics make her unelectable. Never mind the extreme chrony capitalism. Hell, the mainstream of the party loves that, and so does the far right wing, other than the Paulites.

“Governor Haley has stooped to an all-time low by bringing a Presidential candidate to a women’s shelter that she tried to defund,” S.C. Rep. These shelters need funding, not lip service and a photo op from a Governor who’s doing nothing more than auditioning for her next job.”

Mia needs to speak her mind more often.

She might speak her mind, but how much money does she require to implement that speaking her mind?

Great ideas – where is she going to get the money to fund them? Oh, I am guessing some fat rich cat? Please.

Gas prices went down 5 cents in one day, based on renewed faith because of Bibi’s win. Bibi has done MORE for the US economy that Obama (who has only damaged it)…LMAO…

But like a Clemson fan…When you get your @$$ kicked in Basketball, it does not matter…you’re a Baseball School all of a sudden…LMAO…

You paraded Obama’s campaign team overseas, trying to beat Bibi, because he came over here and worked w/ the US Congress BETTER than the POTUS…and that made you look like the incompetent Dumb@$$#$…that you are…

Why do you think FITS is S#!tt!*g all over himself. He’s scared to touch this BIG Win for America…because he knows it’s a BIG loss for Obama and the Democrat Party…????…a signal for 2016…

You might need to take a world economics class…Dumb@$$..

Did Obama support peace and stability in the Mid east..or did he attempt to attack it?…

If Obama would have won..prices would have been up steeply…

How successful is Sistercare? How many of the women return to their abuser to be abused again or get into another abusive relationship?

Reply
Tangerine March 17, 2015 at 11:01 pm

How many women make money and don’t want to be in their “camps” is a better question.

I personally chose to move, change everything to get away from abusive relationship. I do not trust these camps to keep me safe. Of course, it could be said I have some trust issues – I prefer to call them independent ;)

I am sure there are other sources, just the quickest one to grab.

Rape crisis centers are not the same as — nor are they typically located under the same roofs as — battered women’s centers. The latter are worthwhile and the former IMHO are a waste of a raped woman’s time and tax payer money. Men in the legislature might be unaware that a stupid brochure and a perfunctory “There, there, you poor thing,” is about all a woman gets at one of these rape centers, so perhaps it takes a woman to make funding commensurate with thei usefulness.
The domestic violence homes are in a different category altogether, but (and correct me if I’m wrong) I don’t think their funding was reduced.

All I know is YEARS ago, maybe 2 decade, I was desperate enough to reach out, without giving any information (maybe a mistake on my part), but based on all I knew of the person I was trying to get away from, none of the shelters seemed safe.

Had I gone there – I might have a different opinion, but all I could imagine was sleeping in tents, cowering down and not facing my fears or doing anything that was in anyway going to protect me.

I am sure they serve a purpose?

on one aside, alas poor Mia, like the A21 project, social welfare programs function best with charity and grace flowing through the church, not the state from whom all blessings flow under the force of law. The government does best to support these agencies by enforcing the law and keeping them safe, rather than holding purse strings and demanding to tell them how they should run.
