Len Anthony: “Shades Of Grey” Exposes Double Standard

len anthony|| By LEN ANTHONY || I spent thirty years in corporate America as an in-house attorney.  For the last five years of my corporate law career I was responsible for all of Progress Energy Carolinas’ legal matters, including employment law issues.  The cardinal rule of employment law is all employees must be treated the same.  For males, there were strict codes that prohibited sexually oriented conduct or words towards women in the workplace. Ostensibly, the same codes applied to women.  However, there were countless times I was present at meetings at which women uttered words that would have resulted in a man being fired or reprimanded.  Yet, no one, not even me, took any action against the women.

The women appeared to know there was a double standard and dared men to challenge it.

While that was interesting in and of itself, what I found even more interesting was hearing women criticize men for not being “gentlemen,” drinking too much, patronizing strip clubs or being overly fixated on sex.  This struck me as hypocritical as I had witnessed plenty of blind drunk women, known of adult women going to male strip clubs and heard women discussing hiring male strippers for a “girls’ party.”

For some reason, it was “different” when women behaved in this matter.

I also noticed that while women claimed to be offended when viewed as sex objects or complained about men’s one-track sex minds, they wore low cut blouses, high heels, short skirts, had breast enlargement surgery, wore skin tight clothes, etc.  There can only be one reason they do these things.

Now, I hear women discussing the book “Shades of Grey.”  I have not read the book, however it sounds as if practically every women in the world has.  Based on what I have heard women say about it and what I found when I googled “plot of Shades of Grey,” it is porn (a “romance novel” on steroids).  Ironically, while writing this letter I turned on CNN and at this very moment the network is doing an article on “Shades of Grey.”  They are discussing “nipple clamps” and five women are talking about the panties they are going to wear when they go to see the movie version.

It is fascinating to see how it is perfectly acceptable for women to be all enthralled with a book and movie such as this – while if a man had written this book, men would be likely stoned to death if they made as big scene about it as is the case with women.

I don’t object to women using crude language, getting drunk, showing-off their wares, or enjoying porn.  I am glad they do.  What I do object to is if a man does the same thing (of course, men don’t display their wares to anywhere near the same degree as women), they are scolded and criticized.  My questions are: why do we men allow this double standard and more importantly, why do women want it?

Len Anthony spent thirty years as in-house counsel for a public utility.  He’s now semi-retired living in North Myrtle Beach, S.C.

” I have not read the book,..”
So, let’s write an article about it!!

GrandTango February 13, 2015 at 8:56 am

He said he KNOWS what it is about from excerpts…and reviews. That’s very reasonable, you tried and ignorant leftwing cliche…

He’s pretty accurate in describing what the book is. It’s just a licence for un-fulfilled women, and Hard-Drive Crashed men, to read Penthouse Letters (although not as creative as Penthouse)….. without having to admit they are sexually boring, unexcited…and on the slutty, pervish side….

E Norma Scok February 13, 2015 at 1:27 pm

So did you read the other “Grey” novels in the series as well?

Squishy123 February 14, 2015 at 9:32 am

I get the feeling that GrandTango spends much of his time reading things such as Penthouse Forum. He’s likely to have one arm twice the size as the other.

rOcky February 13, 2015 at 9:18 am

I have and Smirks and I will wear our special panties with a picture of Hillary when we attend the movie.

mamatiger92 February 13, 2015 at 9:50 am

Morning, Flip.

Nölff February 13, 2015 at 10:18 am

I think that’s some other wuss that uses fake names all the time… Really bigoted.

Idealistic Progressive February 13, 2015 at 11:46 pm

“Really bigoted.”

I prefer “equal opportunity hater”.

I have to protect my egalitarian ideals.

Libtard February 13, 2015 at 12:28 pm

I dont have to taste shit to know that it doesn’t taste good.

GrandTango February 13, 2015 at 8:52 am

Duh…where have you been the last 50 years…you could remove Women as the double standard and insert African-American, Homosexuals, “the poor” and academia…or just about any other special interest group as long as they vote DEMOCRAT…

It’s do as I DEMAND you do…not as I do…is a very common trait of the leftwing ideologues…

Surprising you had such a long career as an attorney, and you’re just figuring this out…

Aside from that: this is LITERATURE…not some room full of corporate @$$holes, trying to figure out out to F*#k each other, figuratively…

There is a difference…

Squishy123 February 13, 2015 at 9:03 am

Do you really need to comment multiple times on every topic?

Have you ever figured out how many hours a day you spend on this blog?

grandtangosuglydog February 13, 2015 at 9:14 am

iread the book and like Bruce Jenner will soon become a woman…

grandtangosuglydog February 13, 2015 at 12:44 pm

hey flip/grandasshaliartroll how many times a day do you post on this site..guess that blog isnt taking up too much of your time huh?

GrandTango February 13, 2015 at 9:29 am

You’re the one who SO wanted my Blog to die. You claimed it was no good and you didn’t read it…why not apply the same self-ignorance to all I write here…

In other words: When you put Homosexual propaganda on NUMEROUS TV shows to force your politics. liberal religious values and Gay Crusade…you B!*ch and tell me not to watch it…if I don’t like it…

Take your own advice now, Dumb@$$…LMAO…

Squishy123 February 13, 2015 at 1:31 pm

So did your “incredibly successful blog” officially die?

It’s difficult to not read your shit over here, because every other post is yours. Do you have nothing better to do with your life than spend it on Will’s blog?

If Will would install an “Ignore” button on this blog two things would happen, it’d make comments easier to read through and you’d end up talking to yourself.

GrandTango February 13, 2015 at 3:35 pm

Maybe I just transferred my Blog over here…I get FAR more readership than FITS. Most people read his headline, and they KNOW that GOP bashing is about all that will follow…or some other missing of the point…

You people S#!t all over yourselves w/ what I write…I pretty much own your eyes on the page, don’t I? …LMAO…in addition to DEFINING you perfectly…when no one else does that…That’s pretty valuable copy..

Squishy123 February 13, 2015 at 5:14 pm

Does Will know this?

Like I said, if there were an Ignore button, you’d be even more lonely than you are right now. The only reason you post is for the attention you get.

GrandTango February 14, 2015 at 4:45 am

As you respond to me over, and over, and over, and over – all day long…you Colossal Dumb@$$, who has NO idea what you are…LMAO…

Lighten up, bro. It’s Valentine’s. Let some love in your heart.

Might better look at your calendar, Dumb@$$…It’s Friday the 13th….

Nölff February 13, 2015 at 10:38 am

Right on. Is that your excuse?
I’ll be getting making love all weekend long, so it’s an all weekend event for me.

GrandTango February 13, 2015 at 10:50 am

I bet 9″ is so excited, he’s about to pop…LMAO….

Squishy123 February 13, 2015 at 1:32 pm

And you’re anxiously awaiting for him to send you the video.

GrandTango February 13, 2015 at 3:32 pm

STFU Dumb@$$….you missed the softball because you’re Stupid…don’t try to piggyback now……

Squishy123 February 13, 2015 at 5:12 pm

Hell forget piggyback, you’re getting hard thinking about 9″ going bareback on you.

GrandTango February 14, 2015 at 4:50 am

Why do you try so hard???…It just makes you look more inadequate…You are so weak-minded. And not much of a penman…

Seems I have a gift for wit (and a very colorful eloquence w/ words at times) …that I would have not known, if it were not for those like you, laboring so intensely to emulate me….and failing SO miserably…

I have to laugh at how BAD at it you are…when it comes so easily for me…In your attempts to attack (and copy) me, you actually compliment me…Inadvertently, of course.

Squishy123 February 14, 2015 at 9:29 am

“Seems I have a gift for wit”

That only you are aware of. You’re a regular David Brenner… he also would be the only one laughing at what he said.

Colleen Morrow February 13, 2015 at 9:38 am

Len, I totally agree with you. I have not read “Fifty Shades of Gray” and have no intention of doing so. It sounds like a boring book to me and the movie does not sound interesting, either. I do want to read a book called “50 Shades of Kale.” As someone who likes kale, it sounds far more interesting to me!. I understand it is written by a doctor who grew over fifty kinds of kale. Len, I think that some women want to be regarded as “hip, modern, and edgy” and that is why some women act like that. Many women do not value themselves and think dressing and acting ” edgy” is the only way to get attention from their peers, both male and female.

grandtangosuglydog February 13, 2015 at 12:42 pm

There is also the fat ugly women who dress like fat ugly moosey type women and knock women who care what they look like because they have …just…given…up.

Nölff February 13, 2015 at 9:43 am

If you want to watch that, you live in America; so go watch watch some SDBM mommy porn.

These conservative southern men’s fear of women is getting to be sad. So, so sad. Come out of the closet boys. You won’t be so fucking irrationally scared of the world.

WhichWayIsIt? February 13, 2015 at 3:11 pm

Len makes good points. I get tired of hearing on one hand, how women are as good as men and can do anything men can do as good or better (something I happen to generally believe), yet on the other hand how they are such delicate, fragile, little flowers who need all manner of special laws, treatment, and other accomodations lest they fall completely to ruin.

Well ladies, which is it? You can’t have it both ways, or at least you shouldn’t. Please make up your minds.

HowDumbAreYou? February 13, 2015 at 5:57 pm

Do you really think all women are the same? Are all men as clueless as you?

Bible Thumper February 13, 2015 at 9:50 am

I look forward to 2050 when straight white christian men are the the minority, then we get to act like they do.

Buz Martin February 13, 2015 at 1:28 pm

“White people” were only invented in the late 18th century, you know. Partly as a way to do away with non-reservation Indians on paper, and partly as a way to maintain a strict line between darker-hued and lighter-hued individuals. By that time, the races had already become quite mixed in the colonies, due to “miscegenation” that began in the pre-colonial times, between European conquerors/settlers and native population, as well as with “free persons of color” who mostly were here originally as indentured servants before the slave trade in Indians switch over to Africans. This gave many the opportunity to “assimilate”, meaning mate with as many nordic-looking people in every generation as possible to “lighten” up them babies.

This was mighty handy for the VA governmental honchos who concocted it, as most of them were descendants of Pocahontas. They wanted to have that distinction, but also be in a privileged class apart from the average mixed-blood Virginian. Thus they became white people, along with a majority in that state.

The rest of the states liked that and followed suit, as their leaders got to be the big cheese majority, too. It was particularly popular in the rest of the Southeast, since it was more chock-full of Euro-Indian-African muts than any other region. Most of our proud Southern ancestors, in other words. Before that, they were British, Irish, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch, etc., living in America. The invention of white people gave them the status and privilege of the majority. Amazing what can be accomplished with a little legislation huh? “Paper genocide” and a permanent “master race” for our “free” Republic.

Women are still a minority, regardless of ethnicity or national origin of ancestors. Male fetuses being aborted more than female ones accounts for that, ironically enough. But they are a real minority, not one created by legislative fiat.

Social mores and constructs have shifted to give them considerable power as the minority. They will use it any way they can if we get in the way of their power, whether they call themselves “feminists” or not. Nikki Haley is a prime example of that. Ther will bust hell out of our balls if they have to. Or sometimes, just because they can.

Centuries worth of karma working out, there. Hundreds of thousands of years worth, actually.

Me, I get it. I have been a cad in my life, and I am not proud of that. But I consider men an women to have been created equal, even while I understand that some women are taking the opportunity to be a little more equal every chance they get. I seek to make up for my previous cadhood, any way I can. I start by no longer cheating when I’m in a relationship, and by treating the woman the way I want to be treated. You know, like Jesus says do. It’s a lot simpler when you look at it that way.

But … a woman wants me to spank her ass to get her hot … who am I to deny that to her? Know what I’m saying?

Bible Thumper February 13, 2015 at 2:28 pm

Ahh! the invention of “whites”. It worked for a while. They thought they would always have power. That’s why the Census Bureau and South Carolina “Whites” were unaware of the danger when they invented another identification term: Person of Color not realizing how the term would be expanded to all blacks with emancipation andinclude Indians and others. Blacks, Native Americans and others might not out number “Whites” individually but together they could.

Wikipedia: Person of Color – History
The term “free person of color” (f.p.c.) was used alongside “free colored” in the US census to describe people of partial or full African ancestry who were not slaves, from 1790 until 1860. In South Carolina and other parts of the deep south, this term was used to distinguish between slaves who were mostly “black” or “negro” and free people who were primarily “mulatto” or “mixed race.”.[7] Though Martin Luther King, Jr. used the term “citizens of color” in 1963, the phrase in its current meaning did no catch on until the late 1970s.[8][9] Racial justice activists in the U.S. influenced by radical theorists like Frantz Fanon popularized it at this time. By the late 1980s and early 1990s, it was in wide circulation.[10] Both anti-racist activists and academics sought to move understandings of race beyond the black-white binary then prevalent.[11]

Then with the “One-drop rule”, “Whites” are finished. We can’t even claim Obama as our own. Again South Carolina figures prominently, but as an opponent in the person of Ben’s brother George Tillman, who like you (Buz). understood America’s mixed heritage.

Wikipedia: One – drop rule
George Tillman – “It is a scientific fact that there is not one full-blooded Caucasian on the floor of this convention. Every member has in him a certain mixture of… colored blood…It would be a cruel injustice and the source of endless litigation, of scandal, horror, feud, and bloodshed to undertake to annul or forbid marriage for a remote, perhaps obsolete trace of Negro blood. The doors would be open to scandal, malice, and greed.”
But by the twentieth century the other side won to its own chagrin.

Thanks! I’m working on a article about this stuff, and you’ve opened up a couple of new posibiilities for it. To me, this is an endlessly fascinating subject. In my own family, native (and possibly African) ancestry was a subject never discussed openly. But it was always there. Only in the last few years have I come to understand how all of this racial craziness came to be. And yes, I do know that there are many race-hustlers today on the “left” who exploit the hell out of the “black/white” divide. Just as there are those on the right who demonize any form or activism by the “others”, and use race as a political tool as well. It’s how the GOP won the South, after all. Again, thanks for the extra info. Who says you can’t learn something on FITS?

(I won’t cite Wikipedia in my article, of course, but will read as much as I can of the sources and cite them.)

Bible Thumper February 13, 2015 at 7:15 pm

Race was just a proxy for wealth, power and class.
I have been researching my Father’s ancestry. Every branch is dirt poor share croppers back to the Civil War. Didn’t own any land or house until WW II. One family lived next to blacks that owned property and worked for the WPA. There were multiple generations and extended families in the same rented house
Still working on antebellum. But so far, I found a cooper (barrels, buckets, butter churns etc.) and a wheelright no slave owners. They lived in Sumter County which included Lee County. It had the highest (extremely high) per capita white income. $80,000 in 2000 dollars. Many many times higher than Pickens or Oconee. After the Civil War and even today Lee County is one of the poorest in the state.

Buz Martin February 14, 2015 at 12:47 am

Some of my ancestors in SC, though racially mixed, owned slaves. The Civil War broke them down bad. As with you, they did not recover until the middle of the next century. Early part of the century, were again classed as “colored”, prompting them to leave the state for NC. Other similar families went to GA, FL, AL, or MS. Of those who stayed behind, some chose to assimilate with a vengeance — even to the point of joining the KKK.

In order to be considered sexual harassment, the person hearing it must be offended. If no one is offended then it is NOT harassment.

That is what an HR representative told me.

Mom February 13, 2015 at 11:10 am

Fifty Shades of Grey is poorly disguised pornography. It is a form of sexual perversion – S and M. The woman is turned on by nothing short of abuse by a man who has no feelings of affection for her. And we wonder why “the rape culture” is so prevalent…

Buz Martin February 13, 2015 at 1:40 pm

BDSM is based on sexual activity that is “Safe, Sane, and Consensual.” That includes having “safe words” to be used for when things go too far. It does not create rape culture. It is more like the antidote to that societal poison, really. I’m sure you can’t stretch your mind far enough to grasp that fact, however.

Mom February 13, 2015 at 7:54 pm

Getting back to the book/movie, the young woman character is impressed by the man’s wealth. She, in turn, agrees to sexual acts that she is not experienced and is not necessarily comfortable with. The man has no feeling of affection for her. Hummm, how would you feel it your daughter was in this situation?

Miss Ogeny Makes Sense February 13, 2015 at 8:13 pm

Probably a majority of women are motivated almost entirely by what they can get out of men in terms of material things. It is ironic that prostitution is illegal given that most women are little more than whores with ice cold hearts. They will pretend to care about a man only when they stand to benefit in a material way from the pretense.

Buz Martin February 14, 2015 at 12:29 am

Miss Ogyny” is alive and well, obviously. Or should that be “alive and sick?”

Mom February 15, 2015 at 1:38 pm

Sounds like you have faced a lot of rejection from women. You are a bitter and misguided man. I suggest counseling

Buz Martin February 14, 2015 at 12:37 am

Far too many cowardly anonymous trolls wanting to get personal on this blog. So I will not address your last line of bullshit. What I will say is that I was speaking of the BDSM culture in general, and not as it applies to that book series or the film. Which you are obviously far more familiar with than I. I have no idea whether what you say about them is true or not. I’ve seen evidence, behaviorally, by those who practice “24/7 energy exchange”, that I consider grossly abusive — regardless of the gender of the D or S.

Funny thing, men have written similar material its called Penthouse Forums, and you wont find acceptable to talk about in an office, or read around the local community or country club swimming pool. But hey its cool for mommy’s to get their jollies reading mommy porn in public and showing how publicly excited they are for this film. It is way beyond a double standard.

Women have a lot of choices after high school. Should the go to college, get married immediately, have kids, go to work? Oh the choices? What should they do?

Men have one choice: Work. Whether its work after high school or work after college, the only remaining choice is work.
