EX-SENATOR TO APPEAR IN COURT ON CORRUPTION CHARGES

By FITSNEWS || Former S.C. Sen. Robert Ford will appear in court this week to answer to public corruption charges.

Ford was indicted two weeks ago on eight counts of corruption – one count of misconduct in office, one count of forgery (less than $10,000) and six violations of the state ethics act (two counts of using campaign funds for personal purposes, two counts of depositing campaign contributions in his personal bank account and two counts of false reporting).

He faces up to ten years in prison on the misconduct in office charge, five years on the forgery charge and one year for each of the ethics violations.

Ford resigned his seat in the State Senate last May – news which broke exclusively on FITS.  His announcement came shortly after a Senate panel uncovered evidence that he used campaign resources to make purchases at a pair of adult bookstores.  The veteran Democrat – who was first elected to the Senate in 1992 – was also accused of using campaign funds to purchase penis enlargement pills.

The allegations were part of a report of multiple offenses committed by Ford over a four-year period.

Ford referred to the case against him as a “public lynching” – pointing out (correctly, we might add) that far more egregious offenses had been committed in office by S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley.

Haley’s offenses, however, which were whitewashed by her fellow “Republicans” in the S.C. House of Representatives in 2012.

Don’t get us wrong: Ford did the crimes and should do the time – but the issue of selective prosecution he raises is legitimate.

Ford will appear before S.C. circuit court judge Robert Hood at 1:30 p.m. EST on Wednesday December 3.  His hearing will be held at the Richland County (S.C.) courthouse in downtown Columbia.

I hope there is more to come of the current attention on the General Assembly and other officials. Otherwise, this will be a travesty of justice.

Ford couldn’t raise enough money on his own for a bottle of Viagra, let alone a defense lawyer.

These actions should go straight to 800 Richland St. Don’t pass Stop and don’t collect $200.

He didn’t realize that taking penis enlargement pills, when you yourself is a penis, will swell your face.

I always love that he has a hearing before “Judge Hood”. That’s a nice touch.

Go To Trial December 2, 2014 at 12:37 pm

Although Ford obviously broke the law, he can make a huge difference in this state by going to trial and slinging mud – exposing the rest of the lawless rogues in the Statehouse. It would be in his favor and in the best interest of the tax payers if he did. .
Mr Ford, if you are reading this … Go to trial .. call every member of the statehouse to the stand … :-) ..Lord knows, all of them would be scared to death of that!! ROFLMAO!!!

Yeah,that would be a hoot.

Unfortunately,He will likely cop a plea with no jail time and let it go at that.

He should return the favor of his colleagues offering him up as “strange fruit” in the hopes their own escapes will be ignored.

I agree, he screwed already, so he should take as many down with him as possible and try to cut a small break for himself in the process.

What flag is that Ol’ Robert “Mugabe” Ford is wearing on his lapel? Kind of looks like the old “Federation of African Nations” flag or is it one of those “I only represent black constituents” African American flags?

Years ago, I worked at DSS. There were more than a few blacks that wore that pin to work, every day. I found it a bit strange that an employee of the state of South Carolina would show allegiance to a political organization outside the US. But what the hell do I know.

I think he’s wearing the UNIA (Universal Negro Improvement Association) flag (also known as the Afro American Flag) created by Marcus Garvey in response to the song “Every Race Has a Flag but the Coon”. I agree that it’s a bit strange for a state employees to wear.

Ford was only doing what most of them in the General Assembly do. It wasn’t a public lynching, as Ford calls it. It was a ‘Statehouse’ lynching during the midst of Harrell being bombarded with allegations of his own illegal and criminal conduct.

.
Ford needs to truthfully tell everything he knows about what has been going on behind the iron curtain. Even if he goes to trial, it would not be fair and unbiased to punish him beyond what Harrell received. To do so would show the public again how corrupt the court system really is. He needs to spill it all. This is his best opportunity to do so. After the fact, nobody will pay him much attention.

Don’t worry, Robert. I told you I would take care of you and I will. I keep the Feds off of your back, didn’t I? I told you I run the Democratic Party in SC, didn’t I? You held up your end of the bargain for me and I will be sure, you get probation as we agreed. You can keep all that under the table money. Thank you again for keeping quiet about the other things. Your friend, Jean
