COASTAL CAROLINA IS THE NO. 1 (FCS) TEAM IN AMERICA …

By FITSNEWS || It’s been a terrible year for football in the Palmetto State … assuming you cheer for one of South Carolina’s two Division I (a.k.a. FBS) programs. Head coach Steve Spurrier‘s South Carolina Gamecocks started the season ranked No. 9 in the nation – yet despite lofty expectations are struggling to become bowl eligible.  Head coach Dabo Swinney‘s Clemson Tigers have played a bit better than the Gamecocks, but a loss to Georgia Tech last weekend knocked them out of the Top 25 – meaning both in-state rivals will be unranked when they meet in Death Valley on November 29.

Last year Carolina and Clemson were both Top Ten squads when they met …

Who isn’t struggling this season?  Coastal Carolina.  The Chanticleers are 11-0 under head coach Joe Moglia – the former CEO of online brokerage TD Ameritrade.

Wait … the former CEO of TD Ameritrade is the head coach of Coastal Carolina’s football team?  Surely this is a case of mistaken Google identity, right?

Nope.  Coastal Carolina – a government-run school – pays this multi-millionaire $175,000 a year to coach its football team.

Only in South Carolina, right?

Right …

Anyway, whether Coastal Carolina or its football program should exist as public entities (you know where we are on that question), at least Moglia is winning games this year.  In fact with a victory over Liberty this Saturday, Coastal Carolina – which is the No. 1 ranked FCS program in America – would finish the 2014 regular season with a blemish-free 12-0 mark.

The Chanticleers went 12-3 a year ago – losing to Charleston Southern, FBS No. 12 South Carolina and eventual FCS national champion North Dakota State.

If they win out, they’ll be the favorite heading into the FCS playoffs …

The state of South Carolina pays the USCe multi-millionaire coach $1,050,000 per year and you don’t say shit about that. And he’s far from 11-0.

BTW – Lorenzo Ward is paid $400,000 in state salary.

Once again, you are not bothered by what Pickens Tech pays Dabo or the 2 highest paid coordinators in the country (which is necessary b/c Dabo is a fucktard)? And you say you are not a Clemson right, is that right, Fugazy?

Sweeney makes $257,397.00. Which according to the state salary database is what most if not all Clemson head coaches are paid.

Those making more than Sweeney:
Steve Spurrier $1,050,000 (highest salary in the state)
Ray Tanner $525,000 (2nd highest salary in the state)
Lorenzo Ward $400,000 (3rd highest salary in the state)
Dawn Staley $357,000
Frank Martin $306,000
Steve Spurrier Jr. $305,000
Shawn Elliott $305,000
Demetrius Adams $300,000
Harris Pastides $286,200
George Magnus $275,000
Joseph Robinson $275,000

Tanner is an administrator so by your standards Pastides should be on the list and would exceed Ray Tanner. If you are going argue accuracy then get your categories straight.

Paying a multi-millionaire 175k to coach football…for love of the game. Brought this to mind…

Peter Gibbons: What would you do if you had a million dollars?
Lawrence: I’ll tell you what I’d do, man: two chicks at the same time, man.
Peter Gibbons: That’s it? If you had a million dollars, you’d do two chicks at the same time?
Lawrence: Damn straight. I always wanted to do that, man. And I think if I were a millionaire I could hook that up, too; ’cause chicks dig dudes with money.
Peter Gibbons: Well, not all chicks.
Lawrence: Well, the type of chicks that’d double up on a dude like me do.
Peter Gibbons: Good point.
Lawrence: Well, what about you now? What would you do?
Peter Gibbons: Besides two chicks at the same time?
Lawrence: Well, yeah.
Peter Gibbons: Nothing.
Lawrence: Nothing, huh?
Peter Gibbons: I would relax… I would sit on my ass all day… I would do nothing.
Lawrence: Well, you don’t need a million dollars to do nothing, man. Take a look at my cousin: he’s broke, don’t do shit.

One of the greatest pieces of cinema ever…

Joanna: So you’re gonna quit?
Peter Gibbons: Nuh-uh. Not really. Uh… I’m just gonna stop going.

Steve Spurrier is a multimillionaire, how much does USC. a government run school pay him a year?

Reply
GrandTango November 18, 2014 at 10:04 am

If they paid him what he returned, he’d make 10 times as much as he does….

Doesn’t matter, the focus of the post is Coastal is #1. Your orange soul, and perverse obsession with Spurrier, get in the way again. Dabo works for free, right? People want to give cowshit brained Clemson fans a chance to show they really are not that stupid…but then you always come along and destroy that possibility.

No Dabo earns $257K in state salary, Slurrier earns 4x that.

Sounds like a bargain for 175K a year! Considering that Dabo makes 62,500 a week and Spurrier makes 76K a week. Then to top it off Spurrier over 1 million a year from taxpayer money. Then when he retires, he will draw close to 500K annually from the SC Retirement fund. A cop or teacher who works 30 years will draw on average 25K a year if they are lucky. Something is wrong.

Actually it won’t work out that way, assuming he’s even enrolled in the state retirement program. Considering they jumped the state contribution from $350,000 to $1,050,000 last year I’m assuming he is enrolled and ready to retire in the next three years. His state retirement won’t be the full retirement because he won’t have worked 28 years. He will earn 1.875% x average of highest 12 quarters x number of years worked. It’ll still be a large chunk of change and considering those with the power increased his state contribution 200% in one year helps.

Scrappy November 18, 2014 at 10:18 am

He would have no choice to opt out of the retirement system that I know of. I did not feel like researching this, but I wonder if a head coach would fall into the category that was created for judges and solicitors etc? It allows them to retire and draw a much larger percentage than “average” employees after 8 years of service.

Not to hear Liz Gunn tell it……………
but then again, what do i know???
I’m just a lonely voice in the wilderness pointing out the BS that college and professional football has become and is totally out of control.
Not to mention the impact related injuries.
Close to 45% of parents in the US now state that they don’t want their boys playing football due to the concern of brain injury.
And the band plays on……………………….with Ms. Gunn as the head majorette!!!

The CCU program has always been out of control-recruiting thugs (kinda like Cliff Ellis and the basketball program although Cliff gets a pass cause he loves beach music).

When Bennett was coaching they had Jerome Simpson that allegedly beat up his gal and they got him out of that so he could play in the NFL and have drugs delivered to his home via the postal service. :-)

How about when the player from CCU walked out of the locker room after a game in his uniform and pads and a group of people went on a violent, thuggish rage at a condo along the waterway?

Thugville.

Logic fail.
Barring an unprecedented meltdown against Georgia State this weekend, Clemson will probably return to the Top 25 due to attrition.

Coaches don’t win enough games…they get basted on FITS.

A coach goes undefeated (while earning about a tenth of a percent of his proven free market value salary)…they get basted on this site.

Obviously, to get in FITS’ good graces you should be po, but win all your games.
