Curtis Loftis: Friend Of The Taxpayer Award Recipient

Dear Friend,

On Wednesday I received an award that was meant for YOU. The “Friend of the Taxpayer Award” is yours, not mine, because you elected me and I am your employee. Without your continued support, my staff and I could never have accomplished so much.

Your strong commitment to transparency and accountability has allowed me to fight fraud, waste, and abuse. It has allowed me effect real change in state government by refinancing debt, renegotiating contracts, and demanding tougher and more frequent audits.

Your support, both morally and financially, allows me to ask the tough questions that make a lot of people uncomfortable. And believe me, a LOT of people are uncomfortable. The special interest insiders are up in arms about my efforts to use transparency and accountability to rein in their shady practices. But I don’t care about them because I work for you!

Bringing transparency and accountability to state government will save taxpayers billions of dollars over the coming years and ensure the solvency of South Carolina’s treasury.

Will you join me in continuing this fight? Donate $25 or more, and together we can reform state government. I need your help and hope you can assist me today.

loftis sig

Curtis Loftis
State Treasurer

P.S. Many thanks to the South Carolina Association of Taxpayers for presenting us with this award.

Loftis is doing a pretty good job. Can we clone him?

Vic April 4, 2014 at 4:47 pm

Loftis is doing a good job. Nice to see someone fighting for us.

MAE April 4, 2014 at 7:45 pm

Insteada KingSelf (check the dark, dank, sewer above your 2nd floor – it stanks of BULLSHIT

churchlady23 April 5, 2014 at 8:19 am

Hi, Vic, Cash…Altered egos of Loftis. Loftis posting and singing his own, fake “personal praises”. His campaign is all about him. What has he done for the taxpayers of this State? He has accused people making a difference in this State of being corrupt immoral.. Is not the corruption in his camp? Giving his intimate friend 2 million dollars. Where is the transparency in this? Who paid for this ? What did he do to deserve this? A vile man, with many mental and intellectual issues. He has a dangerous temper, a foul, loathsome disease which can be spread. Wash your hands and keep the children away. Go away, Loftis

A friend April 5, 2014 at 9:01 am

Mr Sam Griswold, President Emartius Of the SC Retirees Association, loves to post about Loftis. He, and a couple of his associates, are obsessed and constantly write these post. These post just shows what evil Mr. Loftis has to battle very day.

churchlady23 April 5, 2014 at 9:55 am

You must be joking! Read his own sworn testimonies and be better informed. Loftis needs to go. A vile man, very sick, who has done so much harm for the tax payers of SC. And yes, this job is the best job he ever had! And , he wants to keep it! Not qualified to be Treasurer and yes, he has wasted tax payers money. Go away, Loftis, to your old job!

A Friend April 5, 2014 at 10:01 am

Mr. Griswald, My Ryberg at $161,000, Mr. Varat at $98,000, Mr Reynolds Williams at $115,000 on the American Timberlands deal alone, can you go and actually work for the retirees? Is it possible?

A friend April 5, 2014 at 10:36 am

I will be back in a little while, Mr Griswold. I have to pick up the rest of my research that I left at my fellow researchers house. But believe me, Mr. Griswold and Mr Ryberg at $161,000 and Mr. Varat at 98,000 and Mr Reynolds Williams at $115,00 on the American Timberlands deal alone, I will be back and following you, and talking about total compensation packages, gifts and freebies, Wall Street money largess, and many many more things.
The Commission office leaks like a piece of cheap cloth. and I have lots to say.
It is a tai for tat, Mr. Griswold.. And I love this.

churchlady23 April 5, 2014 at 4:02 pm

You are a fool with no ideas “I have to pick up the rest of my research that I left at my fellow researchers house”. Really? You would be better served by reading and listening to the sworn testimonies in front of the senate finance committee. Read also the testimonies by Loftis and many others. Easy to get. Public knowledge. You must be informed, please, please ,. Do so before you “have a lot to say”

A Friend April 5, 2014 at 5:02 pm

Hershel Harper, state employee, SC Investment Commission.
Last year pay, bonus and compensation package: $699,000.
Plus cell phone, no limit on personal or sick days,

Person responsible for bottom 20% of performance of the investment commision.

Monday I will post the estimated retirement benefit, and rather unusual “fringe benefits,”

churchlady23 April 6, 2014 at 5:05 pm

We will be waiting, Curt. Please, include the salaries of the people working in your office. Amazing how much they make. Transparency and accountability needed here and it starts with you. How about the State plane? How many trips have you taken on the tax payers money? I can go on..

Nan April 6, 2014 at 5:24 pm

I heard the fringe benefit package is worth 30% on top of the salary. Is that true?

M326 April 6, 2014 at 5:49 pm

Nan, calculate your own fringes. What are they worth? Curtis, we recognize you even when you use a girl’s name. Telling.

A Friend April 6, 2014 at 4:26 pm

Greg Ryberg make $161,000 per year, with fringe benefits, he makes over $209,000 per year.
He is not qualified to sit on the commission.
He is not qualified to be the Chief Operating Officer.
His job is to target Treasurer Loftis.
That is correct. $209,000 per year of retiree money to politically target an elected official.

Pam April 6, 2014 at 4:59 pm

He is always in Aiken or at Sullivan’s Island. When does he work?

M326 April 6, 2014 at 5:45 pm

Pam, no matter where he is, he is working. Just like Curtis is today.

A Vol April 6, 2014 at 5:49 pm

The State Treasurer makes less than $95,000 per year. Loftis makes 4 or 5 times that in his retirement. Somehow, I don’t think he is in the this for the money. Unless we are talking about Sam and Reynolds and Greg and …

M326 April 6, 2014 at 6:37 pm

$95,000? Most South Carolineans would give their left hand to make that amount. However, Curtis is lucky that ALL constitutional officers are paid the same by law. If it were based on merit and qualifications, he would be earning much less. He has no background or education to qualify him for the job at all.

Marie April 6, 2014 at 10:04 pm

I think Sam Griswold has a Ph.D. So if you want to be correct, Mr. Loftis, it should be Dr. Griswold. Are you sure this is him?

A friend April 5, 2014 at 9:13 am

Greg Ryberg is paid $161,00 per year. Danny Varit is paid $98,000 per year, both hired by Reynolds Williams to target Loftis. The retirees, who make about $20,000 are paying their salaries.
A quarter of a million per year of retirees money paid used to spew this hate. Amazing.

Kyle April 6, 2014 at 5:23 pm

Is this the same Greg Ryberg that had the no bid state contract for hauling fuel? I always wondered how he managed to make millions off the state with a no bid contract. I suppose it is a good thing to be a conservative with lots of friends in state government.
Millions of dollars in a no bid state contract is a wonderful thing.

M326 April 6, 2014 at 5:47 pm

Curtis, at least try to be original. What a dip!

A friend April 6, 2014 at 5:53 pm

A dip? Is a dip a wealthy man like Greg Ryberg coming back to government so he can be close to 27 billion dollars? Or a wealthy man like Reynolds Williams making !15,000 on the American Timberlands deal alone? If that is being a dip, can I be one too?

churchlady23 April 6, 2014 at 6:34 pm

Curt, Let’s look at your office and the very well paid staff. All 31 members, maybe more. Chief of staff $120,510.00 was your friend (William Leidinger ) All make more than 50,000.00 . Ten make more than $80,000.00. Yes, I wonder what the retiree who make $20,000.00 think about that. I know what they think. Transparency must start with you. As you say “the retirees are paying their salaries”

A Friend April 6, 2014 at 6:47 pm

I can’t speak for Loftis but I would suggest that these people have to work 40 hours a week in their offices, not a few hours a week while longing in Sullivans Island or Aiken or Greenville of Charlotte.

Elliott April 7, 2014 at 8:22 pm

The above staffers are not paid from the retiree trust fund. They are full-time state employees that have significant state wide responsibilities. They are worth every penny of what they are paid.

Guest April 7, 2014 at 8:47 pm

Not the point. Point being, curtis brags of saving taxpayer dollars, yet has continually hired his friends at high salaries and created positions that have never been necessary in the past, ie, chief of staff and PR.

Guest post April 10, 2014 at 7:03 am

17 out of the 33 on the “over $50,000” salary database were hired by curt. Some of them replaced former workers, some are new positions. But one thing is for certain, the ones that replaced prior workers are definitely higher salaries than previously, and obviously the new positions would be higher since they are new positions. Talk about the good ole boy system. Seems to be working for curt. Hire in your friends and pay them well my friend, your ride is coming to an end.

A Friend April 5, 2014 at 10:24 am

Is it true the state employee hershal Harper that is responsible for the poor performance of the retirement fund makes over $600,000 per year? How can that be? Retirees make $20,000 per year.
Perhaps Mr Ryberg at $161,000 or Mr Varat at $98,000 per year or Mr Reynolds Williams who made $115,000 or one deal alone can tell us? |Mr Griswwald, you are the postmaster for this bunch. Can you explain to the policemen, firemen and teachers why this guy makes 10 to 15 times more than they do?
Your buddy,

M326 April 6, 2014 at 5:50 pm

Curtis, the ad hominem crap is below even you.

A friend April 6, 2014 at 5:57 pm

I like working people. I don’t like rich people exploiting them. I like Loftis because he does not like rich people stealing from the poor. Greg Ryberg make $209,000 while working people retire on $20,000. That upset me. Come on Sammy, even you get that Especially with your big fat retirement while still getting paid as a “consultant.”

churchlady23 April 6, 2014 at 7:15 pm

Curt, go take your medication. Quick, quick. You are loosing it. Seek help now.

M326 April 6, 2014 at 8:54 pm

I like all people. I find rich people work very hard and usually deserve their hard-earned wealth. Do you want to make them share it, Curtis? With state retirees? Come on out and say it!

Smirks April 5, 2014 at 5:31 pm

What has he done? You have a pulse, right? Not living under a rock? Damn, I don’t agree with the guy in some cases but I’ll give him the props he deserves.

I wish he would run against Haley. Loftis better run in 2018 dammit…

churchlady23 April 5, 2014 at 10:12 pm

Smirks. “What has he done?” I have copies of the testimonies, which you have not read. If you need them, just ask. Better yet, Fits should publish them. The voters will be informed and vote better. Sick of this. Loftis is a vile man and when you read the testimonies you will know better.

I did my 32 years April 5, 2014 at 7:19 pm

These Investment Commission people are unhinged. They attack Loftis like I have never seen anyone attacked. This bothers me as I have my retirement through the state. And so does my son. Unhinged people running the Commission is not a good thing.

churchlady23 April 5, 2014 at 9:57 pm

You need to read the testimonies I have copies on my table. If you need them, just ask. Easy to get. Better yet, Fits should publish them for the good of the voters.

churchlady23 April 6, 2014 at 5:16 pm

Loftis must go. 200 million of the retirement trust fund lost, when he settled with the Bank of New York. And he signed a 10 year contract with the same bank! All by himself> Gave his friend 2 million dollars and others attorneys 7 million for a return of 22 million. He should be facing a Grand Jury. Be concerned and be glad that the Commission is standing by. Loftis is the one that is unhinged and he needs to go. We will be better without him.

M326 April 6, 2014 at 5:50 pm

Only because they were attacked first, Curtis. You started this.

A friend April 6, 2014 at 5:55 pm

Sammy, please, don’t get testy. Like the time you got in real trouble while trying to run HHS. My ole my, you are a slippery one.

churchlady23 April 6, 2014 at 6:51 pm

Curt, please, go take your medication. You need to stop here because your are loosing it. You are in danger of making a complete fool of yourself.

churchlady23 April 6, 2014 at 4:19 pm

MY,my Curt, watch your mouth! Need soap and water here. The truth is hard to take but much better than lies, anger and false accusations.

HHO April 5, 2014 at 11:20 am

I don’t know anything about this investment commission stuff but I do know that these anti Loftis post are off the chart. If these are the arguments of the commission and those close to it then I am with Loftis all the way.
Reasonable people make reasonable argument. These arguments are unreasonable.

churchlady23 April 6, 2014 at 9:41 pm

HHO, please be informed. Many sworn testimonies about Loftis. If you “don’t know anything about this investment commission stuff” it is your fault due to your lack of awareness. Testimonies have been televised, posted on the Senate site and you can still go to see them. I urge you to view them. Need them, I have copies on my table. Just ask. You will see that these are reasonable people making reasonable argument. The only unreasonable argument is made by Loftis. How can he be a contributing member of the investment commission? Impossible, he must go.

Paul April 6, 2014 at 4:04 pm

If these crazy insiders comments are any indication of how the Commission manages the money, we are in deep do do.

I did not vote or Loftis but I will this time. People like this need to be resisted at all cost.

SC Patriot April 6, 2014 at 5:38 pm

You are absolutely right. It sounds like every member of that commission and their cousin got on here to bash Loftis. If they really think they are without fault then they wouldn’t desperately comment on every story on this site that has to do with Loftis.

They say you can judge a man by the enemies he makes. If people are attacking him such vitriol, he is probably on to something. Loftis has my vote…

churchlady23 April 6, 2014 at 5:51 pm

Get real!

churchlady23 April 6, 2014 at 8:10 pm

Who can work with this vile man? Who can trust him? All he does is criticize , spread lies, accuse smart, intelligent people, working with him of being corrupt, immoral. Please, explain how Loftis can be part of any organization and contribute positively? How can he stay on the Commission.? He must go. No choice ,here.

M326 April 6, 2014 at 8:27 pm

Your enemies all seem to be fine people interested only in the well-being of our state and its citizens. So how are we to judge you?

M326 April 6, 2014 at 5:52 pm

You will be making even more of a mistake if you do that. People don’t attack for nothing. Loftis is totally incompetent.

A friend April 6, 2014 at 6:02 pm

Sammy sammy sammy. The Commission must be paying you by the word. Or are that paying you with free trips to Bermuda like that gave to Bob Borden? That is probably it, free private trips on private jets to exotic islands. Only in SC is that legal. Enjoy yourself, Sammy.

M326 April 6, 2014 at 6:30 pm

Keep making the allegations, Curtis. Everybody knows by now that they can never be substantiated because the only place they exist is in your paranoid mind. You have lost on every front. Entertain the notion that there may not be any fraud waste or abuse at the Commission. That you are making this all up. That it exists in your mind and nowhere else. You need some professional help and I would admire you more if you would admit it and slip on over to the Department of Mental Health. You would give them a real challenge.

churchlady23 April 6, 2014 at 7:01 pm

Curt, go take your medication . You need them right now, quick, quick.

churchlady23 April 6, 2014 at 9:43 pm

Really? Get real!

A friend April 6, 2014 at 6:06 pm

I am a person that knows everyone involved in this Investment Commission saga. I have been watching this mess for a while. Todays little experiment was to show how crazy the Investment Commission insiders are. No matter what was posted, they returned fire with nasty, degrading and distorted information or lies.
Read the below yourself. Would normal people answer these post like this? No.
Point made and worth considering: how crazy are these Investment Commission Insiders?
Answer? Very crazy.

Adam April 6, 2014 at 6:48 pm

You were successful. They were nasty and rose to every baited hook.

M326 April 6, 2014 at 7:49 pm

Interesting to speculate on who is baiting hooks. Ha!

churchlady23 April 6, 2014 at 7:21 pm

Curt, you are a person in need of medication. Seek help, quick. Hopefully, you will be taken off the Commission. Who wants to work with you? Who can trust you?

M326 April 6, 2014 at 9:07 pm

Are you Curtis Loftis? I think so. This is IMPORTANT. Your state treasurer is spending his Sunday in a ridiculous on line rant because the four separate and independent investigations of allegations he made against the Retirement System Investment Commission found NOTHING out of order. He wasted hundreds of thousands of taxpayer dollars on investigating completely unfounded allegations. SLED, the Attorney General, the Ethics Commission, the Inspector General and the Senate found no truth to his allegations. Not one allegation was upheld. What does this tell you? Could all this time and effort been spent more productively? I would think so. I have to agree with one of the other commentators: Curtis, take your medication and go to bed. Employees of the State Treasurer’s Office, be invisible tomorrow! Even Lady Susan agrees.

A friend April 7, 2014 at 6:56 am

Oh how easy it is to wind up crazy investment commission people. They are so happy to show how a 27 billion dollar state agency is willing to play nasty politics. How funny.

WC Jim April 7, 2014 at 12:19 pm

Man, these Investment Commission insiders have let some volunteer run them up the flagpole and off the top! It in embarrassing for a state agency to attack a elected official this way. Simply embarrassing. but you gotta admit it is damn smart on the part of the volunteer. he exposed crazy and mean as no one could imagine!

My insurance went sky high. So much for universal coverage.

Silas April 4, 2014 at 4:31 pm

Have they kept the mandate?

SCBlues April 5, 2014 at 5:55 pm

My insurance did not go sky high. And we do NOT have universal coverage – and that is a big part of the problem.

sixty1 April 5, 2014 at 8:31 am

Maybe, if we’re lucky, we can send Loftis to Washington to ferret out fraud waste and abuse and be done with him here. We all need some relief from this blowhard egocentric politician who is using us with his self-congratulatory bragging. Show us some results–who has been fired or arrested? Answer…NOBODY!

Voice of Reason April 6, 2014 at 5:42 pm

I wasn’t aware the Treasurer could fire someone appointed by the Governor or Leatherman. If that were the case this whole thing would’ve been resolved a lot sooner! Instead, everyone of these corrupt cronies are essentially guaranteed their jobs by Senate Finance, etc. And you’re attacking the only guy who is fighting it?!?!? Amazing…

M326 April 6, 2014 at 5:58 pm

The treasurer made many allegations. Four independent assessments found no wrong doing. Curtis, you have to admit, if all four of these independent assessments were in collusion it would be an amazing feat. We in SC are not capable of amazing feats. So maybe we have to question the validity of the allegations. You, sir, are a fool. You have found NO fraud, waste or abuse. Had you done so, somebody would have been arrested or fired. Nobody has. You are all HOT AIR. You just can’t accept the truth.

A Friend April 6, 2014 at 6:00 pm

Sammy sammy, please go see greg and Reynolds and ask them for new info. Everyone knows the Senate was a whitewash core graphed by Reynolds and Leatherman. Please, don’t tire the people by telling them what they already know, which is this is a corrupt state and the Investment commission loves it that way.

churchlady23 April 6, 2014 at 6:43 pm

Curt, please, take your medication, quick..

Lady Susan April 6, 2014 at 8:10 pm

Is this the Senate subcommittee to which you are referring ?Judging from his Twitter remarks I naturally assumed my good friend Curt held the Senators on that panel in high esteem.

Curtis Loftis ?@TreasurerLoftis Jan 16

Constituents of Senators @kevinbryantsc , Lourie, Cleary and @dj1one are well served. I am hopeful! #WePayTooMuch

Am I mistaken or did something happen to sour the relationship?

M326 April 6, 2014 at 8:20 pm

Oh, my Gd. It’s like a voice from the grave! Thanks so much! He did say nice things about those Senators who found him to be deficient. Bipartisan. Nonpartisan. Objective study. Found Loftis’ allegations to be false and apologized to the Investment Commission Staff for him having made them. If I were Loftis, I would be very embarrassed. He praised them until he heard their conclusions. Typical Loftis. A small man.

JJ April 7, 2014 at 8:30 pm

Curt is always respectful. He was polite to these men. He gave them the benefit of the doubt. He should be honored for that. I do.

Lady Susan April 7, 2014 at 8:49 pm

It appears that what you are implying is that if the Senators agreed with Curt everything was OK but if they didn’t agree they were whitewashing something. Do I understand you correctly. One last thing, wasn’t it the Senator’s job to get to the bottom of the rather public debate between Curt and his fellow Commissioners? Having looked at the videos it seems to me that they were very balanced in their questions as they sought the truth. Do you not agree?

samuel April 4, 2014 at 4:35 pm

Isn’t someone running against loftis in the primary? Always good to have options.

TeaParty April 4, 2014 at 4:42 pm

Yes, I know him. He is ultra conservative. Is a “doomsday prepper.” Even seeks the stuff on line. Nice enough but he never ran for office before.

sixty1 April 5, 2014 at 8:55 am

Since when has ultra conservative been a negative? Does he have any background or financial training? If so, he could be a big improvement over the blaring sound of Loftis.

churchlady23 April 5, 2014 at 9:02 am

We need to know more about him.

Teddy April 4, 2014 at 5:47 pm

I’m sure those crooks running the investment comm were bummed that the best they could get was that dude. I’m sure they will try to smear Loftis, regardless.

Don’t forget to include those good ole BASTARDS that reside in the dark, dank, sewer above your floor.

churchlady23 April 5, 2014 at 9:00 am

The investment commission does not need to try to smear Loftis! He has done this by himself. He is Incompetent, accusing people of wrongdoing, spreading lies and false allegations. All of the accusations have been proven false. Please, Loftis go away. You have lost all credibility.

MAE April 4, 2014 at 7:30 pm

Promise less, deliver more. I do.

M326 April 6, 2014 at 4:18 pm

Bryan Adams from Spartanburg is running in the Republican primary. Seems like a good guy with, unlike Loftis, an ego he can control. He has my vote.

churchlady23 April 5, 2014 at 8:49 am

You must be joking!

sconset April 4, 2014 at 5:59 pm

The fact that he received an award just proves the old saw that you can fool some of the people some of the time…. No matter how often Curtis blows his own horn, he is not competent, simply the wrong man for the job of State Treasurer.

MAE April 4, 2014 at 7:25 pm

Wrong “man” for the job. You chauvinistic ASSHOLE!

churchlady23 April 5, 2014 at 8:53 am

He is the wrong man for the job. No credentials, no degree and many mental and behavioral issues. He needs to go back to his old day job. Better qualified for that!

Columbia Bombers Fan April 4, 2014 at 7:36 pm

Which one of the Curtis haters posted this bullshit? Danny, Scott?

churchlady23 April 5, 2014 at 8:38 am

Please, read the sworn testimonies on Loftis and be informed. Sworn testimonies from Loftis himself. Mental and behavioral problems too numerous to mention. He is the wrong man for the job, as his intellectual abilities are few. All he does is criticizing and accusing people without any proof and he cannot come up with a single one alternative solution. Who wants to work with this guy? Tea Party people, please run a simple background check on this guy!

A Friend April 5, 2014 at 9:10 am

Sam Griswald, Greg Ryberg and Reynolds Williams spew this hate at Loftis everyday. Ryberg is paid $161,000 a day to target Loftis, These hate post are just examples of what they do to Lofris every day and to is all approved by Reynolds Williams.

M326 April 5, 2014 at 9:22 am

Now, now, Curtis. If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. You have called all these people terrible names in public places. Should you be surprised that they return in kind? Shame on you. And why wouldn’t they support your opponent? And why keep commenting on your own article using all these fictitious names? Guess you can’t get much positive comment from the audience at large. That’s OK, you take care of it yourself. What an amazing ego!

M326 April 5, 2014 at 9:23 am

PS. Ryberg is worth every penny! Thank goodness we have him.

A friend April 5, 2014 at 10:17 am

Yes, of course you would think so Mr. Griswold. The retirees Trust Fund is paying Mr. Ryberg $161,000 and Mr Varat 98,000 per year and Mr. Williams a $161,000 on the American Timberlands deal alone. Not you. Your share is a penny r too, but your get lots of pleasure from your role as Hate Master.

But we understand. You have lots of personal interest at stake. So keep posting. Enjoy yourself.

Yours, Vol
PS Hey, Lets talk about the bonus plan. Is it true the retires, that make on average $20,000, are paying Hershal Harper over $600,000 per year for lousy performance?

churchlady23 April 5, 2014 at 10:23 am

What is wrong, Loftis? Bullying, lying and hate do not work for you anymore?

A Friend April 5, 2014 at 10:30 am

Mr. Griswald,
I am interested in the employee that has taken, most recently, a top of the line Apple iPad from a money manager. You know what I am talking about. Do I need to describe it, and the cover he purchased for it? Do i need to give the dye and the money manager name?

Dont confuse him with Mr. Ryberg at $161,000 per year or Mr. Varat at $98,000 per year or Mr. Reynolds Williams who made $115,000 of the American Timberlands deal alone.

Don’t confuse him with the over $600,000 per year state employee that guided the fund to the bottom 20% performance.

And lets not confuse him with the former chief investment officer Bob Borden that was flying back and forth the Bermuda on private jets owned by the Wall Street money manager Apollo.

No, Mr. Griswald, lets talk about free gifts.

churchlady23 April 5, 2014 at 3:21 pm

No clue? Please talk about it. We love facts not lies.

William David Francis April 5, 2014 at 8:04 pm

It has now been ten hours and Friend has presented no facts therefore is is reasonable to assume Friend is none other than Curtis Loftis.

churchlady23 April 6, 2014 at 4:05 pm

I think that you are right!

M326 April 6, 2014 at 4:15 pm

You, sir, are obviously correct. Can you imagine, a Constitutional Officer of our state so obsessed that he responds to his own article in this manner? He spends hours doing this. He needs to get a life and spend his time working for the taxpayers instead of his own ego.

churchlady23 April 5, 2014 at 9:37 am

Who started all this? Loftis did with his multiple allegations which have been proven false. He wasted tax payers money and valuable time to investigate these lies. Did the SC association of tax payers investigated this before giving you this plaque? I doubt it. Sick..

A Friend April 5, 2014 at 10:09 am

My my Mr Sam Griswold and Mr Ryberg at $161,000 per year and Mr. Varat at 98,000 per year and My Reynolds Williams at 115,000 on the American Timberlands deal alone. You are active today. Have you found away to get even more retiree money? Perhaps a retiree trust fund “bonus” per hate filled post? Why not? Sounds like the kind of thing you guys would do.
Yours truly,

churchlady23 April 6, 2014 at 8:33 pm

Curt, let’s review the salaries of the staff in your office. Paid plenty. How about the State plane, and the rides you take on the tax payers backs? Are you being reimbursed for your mileage and the use of your car? You are an hypocrite and you need to go. Nobody can trust you, nobody can be near you and I do not see how you can stay on the Commission. You have wasted time and money for the State. You are not able to understand the truth. Too bad , you have many mental and behavioral issues. Who can work with you?

yo April 4, 2014 at 7:33 pm

Congratulations Curtis for this much deserved honor. There are very few taxpayer advocates in SC and you are a rock star.

sixty1 April 5, 2014 at 8:58 am

A rock star just like Ms Koller at DSS.

sixty1 April 5, 2014 at 8:24 am

This guy’s ego knows no end. He comments on his own article using fictitious names. Look at all the one time posters exactly 16 hours ago (at time of this posting). Loftis or I will eat my hat. I just wish he would do his job if he is capable of it which seems questionable. All we have is his word that he is ferreting out fraud waste and abuse. Specifically, who has been arrested, what laws have been changed, who has been fired? The answer is negative for all. I, for one would like to see a few actual results put on the table instead of all this self congratulation and rhetoric. Show me some results, Loftis–laws changed, people arrested or fired. I don’t think you can. People commit fraud waste and abuse and, when found, get fired or arrested or both. So much for your fraud waste and abuse. I’m uncomfortable, all right. Uncomfortable with a blowhard incompetent. Even voters as ill-informed as South Carolinians will soon recognize what a fraud, waste and abuse this guy is.

Kelly April 5, 2014 at 8:35 am

Go away Dick Eckstrom.

sixty1 April 5, 2014 at 8:47 am

Loftis has no financial credentials, not a degree in accounting, not a CPA, nothing. You expect him to understand the complexities of government finance and investing? Think again. Ask the bank of New York who saw him coming–the bumpkin from SC. Like finding money.

A friend April 5, 2014 at 9:07 am

Mr. Griswald, please. We understand your anger. We understand that Reynolds Williams and friends are financing Mr. Loftis’s primary opposition. We understand your goal is to damage Mr. Loftis in anyway possible. But please, can’t you find a more constructive way to channel your hate?
These hate filled post are proof positive of what Mr. Loftis faces every day from the you, Greg Ryberg and others..

M326 April 5, 2014 at 9:13 am

Not Griswold this time, Curtis.

A friend April 5, 2014 at 10:05 am

Sure you are Mr. Griswold, and Mr. Ryberg at $161,000 and Mr. Varat at $98,000 and Mr. Williams at $115,000 on the American Timeberlands deal alone. You all work together hand in glove.

My name is Vol. I am a volunteer . My job is to follow you around on the internet and let people know who you are and how much retiree money you make. I am retired and have lots of time and i love my new responsibility!

churchlady23 April 5, 2014 at 3:04 pm

Vol, please find another cause to occupy your time. People like Loftis always disappoint. Cannot do his job because he is not qualified and has limited abilities . So what does he do? He accuses, lies, posts on these pages instead . . Can you imagine, an elected official spending so much time tooting his own horn! What a fool!

sconset April 5, 2014 at 10:29 am

Besides Loftis being an incompetent, the SC Taxpayers Association which gave him this “award” is really a front for Big Tobacco, fighting to keep state taxes low on its products!!!

Noaxtogrind April 5, 2014 at 9:43 pm

Curt, I am a frat brother. You will be our next treasurer and I, like most of your friends will vote for you. Having said this, none of us can “reach” you. I don’t mean by phone or email. None of us judge your decisions re your politics or lifestyle. We just miss the old Curt. You need to surround yourself with folks who will give you a true evaluation of your actions. You are getting awful advice from folks who care not about you but about what they think you want to hear.

Will** April 6, 2014 at 3:26 pm

Curt, I knew you when you went by Melvin Loftis. Always liked you. You need to get some new people. Noaxtogrind is right, you are getting terrible advice. I, too, don’t care about your alternative lifestyle but you need to get some smart folks around you, stop being so volatile and work better with others. You always had one problem: it was always about YOU. Ever since you were a kid. There are other people and other beliefs that are just as legitimate as YOURS. So cool it, guy. It will be OK.

M329 April 6, 2014 at 4:56 pm

Gosh, you see I did it again. I used the name of Will this time but still I made up lies and rumors to hurt Mr. Loftis. Oh well, maybe I can stop my lying ways. But probably not. You see, I like nice things and lying has helped me and my friends get very nice things. (That reminds me I need to call Reynolds and see what today’s take was)
I will be back soon as my life is pathetic and it is best when I am spearing lies about Loftis,
See you, Sammy.

churchlady23 April 6, 2014 at 6:47 pm

Curt, you really need your medication. “Your life is pathetic” sp get help!

M329 April 6, 2014 at 4:49 pm

Hi, you may have guessed my name is Sam Griswold. I, along with my friends Reynolds Williams, Greg Ryberg and Danny Varit, along with a couple of folks you don’t know, also write under fake names like Churchlady, NoAxToGrind, Will, Max and others. I love writing nasty things about Loftis because he is on to us. He knows we pay high fees and get low returns. He knows we reward our friends with retiree money. He knows we have no oversight and he knows we love it that way.

Anyway, I know know one reads these post, but as a crazy man that does not like to see the flow of money slow down to the insiders, it makes me feel good to write rumor and lie and distortions. I suppose John Wayne Gacie felt good while killing and eating scores of people and this makes me feel good.

I will be writing soon as I have nothing to do. Except be hateful. I that is so much fun.

churchlady23 April 6, 2014 at 6:12 pm

Curt, be careful and I think you need your medication. Please, call Delinda Ridings, Camille Noonan, John Wagner, maybe they can help you. Or try, Linda Gamble, Kaaren Mann, Joanne Jones. Oh, Dear, dear

M326 April 6, 2014 at 6:18 pm

The only one guessing is you, Curtis. You got a problem. Four independent investigations of your allegations of wrongdoing at the Investment Commission and not one was upheld. Why? This is beginning to look irrational as are your posts here. Perhaps the General Assembly will solve this mess by taking you out of the picture. Lots of retirees will be relieved at that. You want to be re-elected? Better stop this childish crap. Do you have no adult supervision?

M329 April 6, 2014 at 4:51 pm

Hi, I see now my original idea to plant rumor and innuendo under the name of noaxtogrind was childish and stupid. I am sorry because we were all taught as children that making up lies is a bad thing. But I just can’t help myself. I like to lie.

Mazie April 6, 2014 at 12:23 pm

SC Association of Taxpayers (SCAT). Check ’em out and see if you would be proud of an award from this organizations:

JackJJr April 6, 2014 at 1:22 pm

Curt Loftis is a joke with his staff, with other government leaders, and financial professionals everywhere. His oversized head turns beat red at least 5 times a day.
His TV commercials are a joke. By reading his flight log on the state plane, you’d think he was Chuck Yeager. His chief of staff is a complete idiot. And his lack of transparency his truly reaching new heights.

churchlady23 April 6, 2014 at 3:45 pm

Yes, let’s look at Loftis and his staff, Chief of staff at $120,510.00. Five program managers III. at $112,270.00, 106,018.00, $105,571.00, $104,134.00., $84,460.00 . Five programs managers II, $80,622.00, $ 77,500.00. and more. Seven programs managers I, $72,100.00, and more. Three senior application analysts. Attorney at $95,000.00. DPTY/DIV Director =EXEC Comp $ 95,790.00. And many more, like audit managers, three senior applications analysts all paid plenty. Five accountant fiscal analysts.. All paid plenty. I wonder what the average retiree with $22,000.00 thinks of this waste of tax payers money. Transparency, please Mr. Loftis.

Ex STO guy April 7, 2014 at 8:35 pm

These people bank and manage 40 billion a year. Sorry you think they should be paid peanuts. I am glad they make a living wage. They aint getting rich, that is for sure.
I stand with Carlton Washington and the state employees asso in asking for a living wage. Evidently, you hate state employees.

Max April 6, 2014 at 3:46 pm

Hey, Curt. Met you at the Phoenix Bar in Manhattan. Don’t know if you remember me, man, but you should. When you coming back? Saw this award. Congrats, man. Don’t be too long.

m329 April 6, 2014 at 5:18 pm

Hi, Sammy G here, just using another fake man so I can try to be clever and show my mother that I was not the “good for nothing idiot sissy son she thought I was.”
Anyway, lying about Loftis is my job. I sit here all day and post all around the internet. Sometime my friend Reynolds helps me as he has lots of time (he is making money hand over fist off the retirees). Sometimes I get little Greg Ryberg to help. He has lots of time because he made a fortune selling rubbers, rolling papers and lottery tickets to the masses. Then, surprisingly, he sold his business to venture capitalist for a ton of money. In fact, it is a small world as those venture capitalist are connected to the Investment Commission that he helped create and now runs. Oh well, enough of that, I got go spew some filth.
see yas oon,

M326 April 6, 2014 at 6:08 pm

Curtis, I post under M326 and nothing else. You will just have to get used to the idea that a bunch of other folks find you less than useful. Get a life. I am a nemesis but I am not the ONLY nemesis. Sorry. You can see plenty of M326 but I don’t see any consistent Curtis Loftis. You make up a new name for every post but it is obvious it is you. Can’t believe a Constitutional Officer of the State of SC is spending his time doing this. I don’t see any of the others demeaning themselves in this manner. Really amazing.

Muffy April 7, 2014 at 8:42 pm

Griswald, Your mother, a noted lesbian, muffed dived her way to carpet burns on her lungs. It was the first case of Black lung and I think Reynolds Williams handled the case. He also was banging her, but his little penis just could not manage an organism. But that is why they had bananas. You will remember hem, always on the counter but never eaten.
Colorful life you have.

Dr.Frank May 6, 2014 at 1:41 pm

Dear Curt, dear, dear Curt. You are loosing it. You need to go to the Principal office where your sweet mama is waiting to take you to your mental doctor. You need to take your anti crazy medication. But, it did not work then and the medication does not work now. You need to go because you are a vile man, all grown up beyond repair. Go away, you have done nothing for SC. Mental problems, lies, incompetence, violent temper, assault charges, corruption, abuse of the court system..The voters will vote you out! Good riddance!

M326 April 6, 2014 at 6:22 pm

Griswold’s mother is dead.

Larry April 7, 2014 at 12:15 pm

Probably killed herself when she saw how her son turned out

churchlady23 April 6, 2014 at 6:55 pm

Curt, again, please, go take your medication. This is not sane and your are in danger of making a complete fool of yourself. Quick, get help.

Pain April 6, 2014 at 4:55 pm

Churchlady23, pretty certain you are little Dick Ickystrom, or some sleeze from the Invest comm. The invest comm needs to be fumigated.

M326 April 6, 2014 at 6:02 pm

If that is done, I hope you are attending a meeting in person. You personally are the problem, Curtis. Can’t believe the Treasurer of SC is posting on this trash site. Why don’t you just use your real name? Everybody knows its you. Be honest and straight-forward. Be transparent. Be Brave and Courageous. Be the Knight in Shining Armor. USE YOUR REAL NAME INSTEAD OF HIDING BEHIND ALL THESE ALIASES! Coward!

WC Jim April 7, 2014 at 12:14 pm

And you name?

Former employee April 6, 2014 at 7:21 pm

Worked for him – lost his temper on a regular basis. He is a bully and the key to dealing with a bully is STAND YOUR GROUND. He loves to post religious comments on his facebook pages, yet consistently uses the “F” word and curses God’s name in vain. A total hypocrite. I will vote for anyone who runs a against him. Recheck the salary listing. Newly appointed chief of staff earns $120,000 and it should be noted that she is a state retiree who is probably drawing a retirement of around $40,000-$45,000 on top of her $120,000 current salary. Newly hired PR guy earns $75,000 where former PR guy (Brian DeRoy) only earned $56,650. Yes, let’s check into his payroll. You people rooting for him are in for a rude awakening very soon. He has cried wolf so many times its no longer amusing or entertaining. How much money has he cost the state with all of these frivolous accusations? And yet you guys are still behind him? Says a lot. It only takes someone disagreeing with him to send him into orbit. Is just a matter of time before he loses it in front of the right people. His narcissistic ego can’t be tamed.

M326 April 6, 2014 at 7:32 pm

Wow! Worse than we thought! He needs to go.

M326 April 6, 2014 at 7:36 pm

GO Brian Adams! Candidate for Treasurer. We do have a CHOICE!

WC Jim April 7, 2014 at 12:13 pm

love all these anonymous comments. Real men say tough words in public. Cowards do it on the internet

Wayne B April 7, 2014 at 3:02 pm

I assume you apply that standard to everyone. It is just as cowardly to anonymously make unsubstantiated and false claims about the members and staff of the Investment Commission as it is to anonymously allege that Mr. Loftis is not qualified to serve on the Commission, a position I hold.

I have had the opportunity to observe Mr. Loftis over the past two and a half years and have learned that he is your best friend when you agree with him but the moment you take a position different from his you become his enemy. I have personally been the subject of one of his verbal attacks for nothing more egregious than expressing an opinion that he didn’t agree with. I have no doubt that Curtis Loftis considers himself right about the positions he takes but he needs to learn that in this nation we all have the right to our own opinions.

Your turn.

Former employee April 7, 2014 at 9:00 pm

Tough words? Truth must hurt. Enough said.

Als Upstairs April 6, 2014 at 8:25 pm

Mr. Loftis will be a great Governor.

churchlady23 April 6, 2014 at 8:57 pm

You are joking?

M326 April 6, 2014 at 8:39 pm

About 50% of the comments made here are by Curtis Loftis under various aliases. This should tell you something about our Treasurers’s state of mind. Probably 25% are comments by me. Think what you will–I am not the Treasurer. Regardless of what Curtis claims, the rest are not by me or him. They are by people who seem to have serious concerns about his competence to be State Treasurer. I concur with them. Any Constitutional Officer of this state who spends his time in this manner really needs to come under close scrutiny. This guy has a mental problem and it is beginning to affect the state’s ability to manage its resources. This is not a joke. We need to look at alternatives. Brian Adams is running on the Republican ticket. I don’t know much about him but we do have a CHOICE here. That’s lucky.

WC Jim April 7, 2014 at 12:11 pm

And how would you know Curtis wrote these? I happen to know he was outside all day, with friends, at “the shed” where he has cars and RV’s and 4wheelers and other stuff. You ought to check your facts first. We had a big time and believe me playing on computers was not part of it.

Sims April 7, 2014 at 9:09 am

Man, this is crazy stuff.

The Treasurer's State April 7, 2014 at 2:25 pm

We HATE our idiot boss! Help us please!

Guest April 9, 2014 at 8:51 pm

Help is on the way. Had the pleasure of meeting Brian Adams at the Spartanburg stump meeting and boy was he impressive. He was able to point out some things about Loftis’ record that we didn’t know. Loftis would not stand a chance having a debate with Brian. I was so impressed I had to write him a check on the spot. Tell everybody you know there is a truly conservative alternative to Curtis Loftis. An alternative who will make us proud.

Guest April 9, 2014 at 8:39 pm

Every campaign needs a good campaign song and I recommend this one for my good friend Curt.
