ESPN analyst Mark May has placed the University of South Carolina on “Upset Watch” this weekend as the No. 12/13 Gamecocks (2-1, 1-1 SEC) head to Orlando, Florida to take on the Central Florida Knights (3-0, 0-0 AAF).

“The Gamecocks better watch out,” May said, referencing UCF’s big win over Penn State two weeks ago in Happy Valley as a reason for USC to be on alert.

As South Carolina fans are keenly aware May has rarely has a kind word for the Gamecock program – but in this case it’s hard to argue with his determination.

Once viewed as a “trap game” (i.e. a match-up in which a superior team overestimates an ostensibly inferior opponent), Saturday’s showdown at BH Networks Stadium has evolved into a legitimate (and acknowledged) challenge for head coach Steve Spurrier’s squad – which many believe has taken a step backward in 2013 after posting back-to-back 11-win seasons.

UCF is on the cusp of both the AP Top 25 and the USA Today/ Coaches’ polls – which is one reason the visiting Gamecocks are only favored by a touchdown.

Maybe but I doubt it. The Gamecocks are good but not as good as we’d hoped and I don’t think they are underestimating anyone at this point, but especially not underestimating a team coming off an upset win.

I think upset watch is fair, hes not saying that UCF will upset, Just there is potential, and there is certainly that, playing against a sleeper team that does play top flight competition ever year in their own house riding a wave of momentum…ya, thats an upset alert.

UCF upsetting Steve’s 2013 club? No shit. When the top ten teams are throwing up 50-70 point wins only three games into the season, we are struggling to put 23 points up…and nothing in the second half. Put on the list, KU, Ark, Tenn, and Clemson. Maybe Miss State too, we are that disorganized, out of shape, and under coached on the sidelines. Maybe 8 wins this year.
