Sheheen: Haley Must Play By The Rules

Camden, SC – In the past week, South Carolinians learned that Governor Nikki Haley refuses to reimburse taxpayers for using a taxpayer owned car to transport her and her political fundraiser and her campaign staff to a political event in North Carolina where she collected more than $30,000 in campaign contributions.

“This is ridiculous. There is no excuse for Nikki Haley’s abuse of taxpayers by spending their money on campaign activities,” said Sen. Sheheen. “A governor – especially one who professes the importance of transparency – should be the example, not the exception on ethics. A governor – especially one who claims to support fiscal responsibility – shouldn’t repeatedly waste taxpayer dollars on campaign travel. It just doesn’t pass the smell test- it stinks.”

Haley has been reprimanded previously by the Ethics Commission and state leaders for her repeated misuse of the state plane. Governor Nikki Haley was forced to reimburse the state $9,500 for ethics violations regarding plane usage in 2012. And earlier this year Haley was caught flying campaign staff on the state plane 43 times between March 2012 and April 2013.

“South Carolina deserves a governor who will hold to a higher standard, instead of a politician who constantly operate by their own rules,” Sheheen continued. “I vow that as Governor, I will not use state vehicles for campaign travel, to transport campaign contributions, or allow campaign staff in taxpayer owned cars or on the state plane.  This is about trust and responsibility.”

South Carolinians are ready for a change.

The only reason ole Vince wouldn’t travel to political functions in a vehicle is he’s not in the governor’s mansion! Come on Vince, quit being so self-righteous.

If you are hunting squirrels, take a 22
If you are hunting rabbits, take a 410
If you are hunting deer, take a Browning BAR Mark II Lightweight Stalker
If you are hunting a sitting Governor, don’t issue namby pamby press releases like the one above

“South Carolina deserves a governor who will hold to a higher standard”

So are you saying “democracy” doesn’t work Sheheen?

What about the immutable idea that Democracy is best and that the voters know what is best, and if they don’t they deserve what they get?

Baby, this state would be a hell of a lot better off is Bob Sheheen was still in the legislature, too.
