Back in 2007 the world became aware of the existence of Ireland Baldwin – daughter of actor Alec Baldwin and actress Kim Basinger – after the 11-year-old received a nasty voicemail from her dad referring to her as “a rude, thoughtless, little pig.”
Ouch, right?
Baldwin later apologized for his nasty message, and claimed the fallout from the scandal drove him to consider killing himself.
“If I committed suicide, (Basinger and her friends) would have considered that a victory,” he said. “Destroying me was their avowed goal.”
Sheesh … how can the man who portrays our hero Jack Donaghy on 30 Rock (not to mention Pete Schweddy of Saturday Night Live’s “Shweddy Balls” fame) be such a self-absorbed ass-hat?
Anyway … Baldwin’s “rude, thoughtless little pig” is all grown up now. In fact she had her coming out party this week in the pages of The New York Post – a paper her father loves to hate (and physically accost). Now seventeen years old, Ireland Baldwin – a stunning 6-foot-2 blond bombshell – posed for a series of racy bikini shots and gave the paper an extensive interview.

She’s also seems to have a good head on her shoulders … casually disarming the drama surrounding her excessively prone-to-anger papa.
“I think he’s very outspoken and he has his opinions, and he’s him and I’m me, and I know he’s done things that he regrets himself and that he’s sorry for, but you know, the past is the past,” the young model said of her dad.
In fact the young Baldwin bombshell comes off similarly mature throughout her interview … discussing how she wants to teach her soon-to-be-born step-sister to avoid some of the same mistakes she’s made.
Expect big things from this young starlet, whose images will appear in W and Vanity Fair in upcoming months and who has her sights set on Sports Illustrated‘s swimsuit edition, Victoria’s Secret modeling as well as becoming “the next Tina Fey.”

Thanks to her father’s genes, she’s not model material or a raving beauty. At 17, how many mistakes could she have made that she could teach a younger half-sibling to avoid? Then there’s the troubling matter of her having said first that she wanted to save sex for marriage, but now she says she looks at things differently, with the middloe of the before-and-after point being her boorish father’s marriage to a creature who wears a navel ring but no underwear in public. Troubling also was her dying her hair black at 13 when the buffoon of a father was dating yet another woman neither old enough to be her mother or a positive female role model. Kim Basinger was absolutely right to try to protect her daughter from the narcissistic, deranged brute whom she rightly divorced, and to be concerned about the kind of women with whom he has chosen to associate thereafter. But I give Ireland credit for realizing that it was a mistake to have had her navel pierced, and God knows that the offspring of Alec and his navel-ringed temporary bride is going to need guidance from somewhere. With the genes she has from her mother, Ireland is always going to be light years ahead of the lot of them. Kim Basinger has more substance and class in her little finger than the whole Baldwin family, some of her own, Ridicula, and the foetus all put together. Good luck, Ireland — and for God’s sake, focus on your education, not the glamour nonsense.

I’m tired of hearing aspersions cast on Kim Basinger; if she’d been in the wrong, he’d have done better, and been able to do better, since.
