“FIX THE DEBT” GROUP FORMS IN PALMETTO STATE
Former Republican S.C. Attorney General Henry McMaster and S.C. Rep. Leon Stavrinakis, a Democrat from Charleston, have joined forces to launch a new grassroots group aimed at drawing attention to our national debt.
The group – Fix the Debt SC – is affiliated with the national Fix the Debt organization.
Fix the Debt bills itself as “a non-partisan movement to put America on a better fiscal and economic path.”
“We come together from a variety of social, economic and political perspectives, around the common belief that America’s growing federal debt threatens our future and that we must address it,” the group’s website states. “The Campaign will mobilize key communities-including leaders from business, government, and policy-and people all across America who want to see elected officials step up to solve our nation’s fiscal challenges.”
Fix the Debt says nearly 300,000 people have signed its petition – and boasts “2,800 active supporters” in South Carolina.
