HOW LOW WILL THEY GO?
With the price of a barrel of crude oil trading below $28 – a twelve-year low – it’s not surprising that the price of gasoline continues to decline precipitously.
According to the AAA Daily Fuel Gauge report, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in the United States currently stands at $1.87. In South Carolina, it’s $1.65 – one of the five lowest rates in the nation.
As you can see from the chart below, prices are down more than eighty cents from their 2015 peaks.

And they’re not likely to rise anytime soon as the global market is dealing with a glut of oil …
Is this good news? Yes … and no. Obviously for dirt poor South Carolinians (who spend a disproportionately high percentage of their meager incomes on fuel), low gas prices are good news.
Unfortunately, as we’ve seen on numerous previous occasions declines in gas prices don’t translate into expanded consumer activity.
Why not? Um … Obamacare, for starters.

Hard to get any economic benefit from low gas prices when they averaged $3.50 under Obama for 6.5 years.
The $1.87 avg is what the price was when Obama took office.

In January 2009, the monthly average price of gas was $1.84 a gallon. Five years later, the monthly average was $3.36.

The genesis of that minor fetish to me was a photo in one of those little digest-sized girlie mags that I snuck a look at when I was a kid, at the local drug store news rack: Bettye Page in a tiny crocheted bikini, standing at an old-fashioned gas pump, holding the pumper. Strangely enough, that shoot was done in the middle of a cornfield. Found it online and used it for a screen-saver for a while.

So many non sequiturs in this article…I don’t know where to start. Is it the clickbait nip pic? Is it the linkage b/w Obamacare and not having enough for fuel?
Anyway, the real gist of this story should have focused on the Exxons, BPs, Shells and so forth not passing along the low, low prices to consumers at the pump.
Much like the diamond industry, the petrol industry is a false economy. An artificially controlled market where no matter how much fuel there is in the world (a massive glut being the current state)…the prices never drop down to what they should be….they only go up as demand increases. I mean sure, 85 cents is something but really we should be paying less than a dollar per gallon. Don’t think for a minute these guys aren’t colluding to keep prices artificially high.
