South Carolina’s top prosecutor has received an endorsement from one of the Palmetto State’s top law enforcement organizations in his bid for governor, according to a news release issued by the group this week.
S.C. attorney general Alan Wilson – the GOP gubernatorial nominee in this fall’s general election – was endorsed on Monday (August 31, 2026) by the South Carolina State Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police, which urged its members, law enforcement families and voters across the state to support his candidacy.
“Alan Wilson has spent years working with the men and women who protect South Carolina, and our members know his record,” lodge president John Blackmon said. “Just as important, he understands that good public safety policy cannot be developed without listening to the officers who are doing this job every day. He has committed to keeping law enforcement at the table as governor, and we believe that relationship will make South Carolina safer.”
Wilson was chosen by the group following a “comprehensive process” that included questionnaires, interviews and voting by its local lodges. To win the statewide group’s endorsement, more than two-thirds of its local lodges must agree to support a candidate.
“Wilson easily cleared that threshold,” the group noted.

“Alan Wilson has demonstrated throughout his career that he understands the challenges facing law enforcement, and he has been willing to listen when officers bring those challenges to him,” Blackmon continued. “We believe he will bring that same commitment and accessibility to the Governor’s Office.”
Wilson said he was “incredibly honored” to be endorsed by a group whose members “put their lives on the line every day to keep South Carolina safe.”
“For more than fifteen years as attorney general, I have worked alongside law enforcement to take violent criminals, drug traffickers, gang members, and predators off our streets,” Wilson said. “Our officers deserve a governor who will stand with them, listen to them, and make sure they have the tools and protections they need to do their jobs. As governor, I will always have their backs.”
Wilson has received near-monolithic support from South Carolina’s law enforcement community during his bid for the Palmetto State’s top executive office. During his campaign for the Republican gubernatorial nomination – a race which pitted him against a sitting GOP lieutenant government and a pair of incumbent GOP members of congress – he was backed by 25 county sheriffs and six solicitors.
Wilson is facing Democrat state representative Jermaine Johnson in the November 3, 2026 statewide election.
