A Midlands, South Carolina high school was placed on lockdown Thursday afternoon (September 17, 2026) after an undisclosed threat, school officials confirmed.

“A call came into the school and a person made a threat against the school,” noted a statement from Libby Roof, chief communications officer of Lexington County school district one. “An administrator put the school in lockdown.”

Roof added that law enforcement had arrived on campus at Lexington High School (2463 Augusta Highway, Lexington, S.C.) and was “searching the campus and classrooms.”

“There are no reports of an active shooter on campus and there are no reports of any injuries at this time,” Roof stated.

Witnesses reported a massive police response including a helicopter and several dozen law enforcement vehicles having been dispatched to the scene in response to the report. Local, state and federal assets were participating in the response, sources confirmed.

“There is currently a large law enforcement presence at Lexington High School due to a threat being called in,” a statement from the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department (LCSD) noted. “The school has been locked down to everybody except for law enforcement. As we work to keep everyone safe and the campus secure, no one is allowed on or off campus except for law enforcement and district/school administrators.”

Shortly thereafter, LCSD noted its deputies were still working to “clear the school” but that the “threat level at the school is considered low.”
