At one point Republicans owed their majority to Beatty, whose legislative deal-cutting in the early 90s redistricting process created more majority-white (GOP) House districts in the process of meeting Beatty’s goal of creating more majority-Black House (not so much GOP) districts.

What is Will Folks’ problem with Donald Beatty anyway? And why would Folks not want Beatty on the Board of Trustees of Beatty’s own alma mater? Does Folks believe SC State University should be shuttered? Or governed by only white people? Or that all African Americans and their predominantly-black colleges and universities should be shipped back to Africa? Or what?
