Troopers of the South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP) are investigating the death of an unidentified body found floating in Lake Murray, South Carolina, on Friday, September 13, 2024.
According to Lexington County Sheriff’s Department (LCSD) Capt. Adam Myrick, the body was recovered halfway along the Lake Murray Damn at around 9:30 a.m. EST. Nearly three hours later, his department announced the commencement of a death investigation.

“The body has been recovered,” LCSD posted on Facebook at approximately 12:00 p.m. EST. “Crime scene investigators and major crimes detectives are on the scene as part of our ongoing work on the case.”
Shortly after 3:00 p.m. EST, however,Myrick announced that LCSD had referred the case to SCHP. He further confirmed that employees of the Lexington County Coroners’ Office are investigating the person’s identity and cause of death.

UPDATE |
Lexington county coroner Margaret Fisher identified the body as that of 34-year-old Darius Marche Dendy of Columbia, S.C. Dendy was involved in a single-car crash which reportedly took place on the dam two days earlier (Wednesday, September 11, 2024).
Dendy was the only occupant of the only vehicle involved in the crash, according to law enforcement.
That vehicle, a 2022 Dodge Charger, was pulled from the lake shortly after Dendy’s body was found.
According to police, Dendy was traveling west on North Lake Drive (S.C. Highway 6) toward Lexington near Lake Murray Boulevard (S.C. Highway 60) when his vehicle “overturned” and careened into the lake.

How was he out of prison? He was convicted of multiple sexual charges against a child under the age of 11.
How does a competent, self-respecting journalist post a glaring, capitalized misspelling in the top of the second paragraph of a <500 word post? Slow down for 30 seconds and read what you type up, out loud before you post it…it will save you alot of embarrassment.
