On Tuesday afternoon (June 18, 2024), the Travelers Rest Police Department (TRPD) was alerted to an alleged armed robbery underway at the Bank of Travelers Rest – located at 500 Roe Center Court in the South Carolina Upstate town.

According to a news release from the city, officers learned upon arrival that a black male had entered the bank at approximately 4:45 p.m. EDT, given the impression that he had a firearm and demanded money from the teller.

The suspect – Ronald Bernard Hunt, 53, of Travelers Rest, S.C. – attempted to alter his appearance by getting rid of his hat, beanie, and by removing his shirt, authorities said.

“The suspect was able to obtain monies, exit the bank, and flee on foot in the direction of Roe Road and toward the general direction of the intersection of Roe Road and South Main Street (U.S. 276) which is near the Travelers Rest Post Office,” the report noted.

Fortunately, Travelers Rest police officers and Greenville County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO) deputies were able to arrest the Hunt near Old White Horse Road and Ebenezer Church Road. Hunt was taken into custody almost immediately thanks to intelligence gathered through community cooperation.

Hunt has been transported to the Greenville County Detention Center where he will be formally charged an arraigned.

“No individual at the Bank of Travelers Rest, community member, or suspect were harmed during this course of this incident and all parties are safe,” it added.

Take your hat and shirt off to elude police? I thought you had to drive to a paint shop to lose your wanted level.
