Hampton County SC Woman Arrested For Breach Of Trust

Hundreds of thousands of dollars allegedly taken from local business …

A Hampton County, South Carolina woman was arrested on Wednesday and charged with fraudulently obtaining funds from her place of employment. According to a news release from the S.C. State Law Enforcement Division (SLED), 50-year-old April Hadwin Shaffer of Furman, S.C. was arrested and charged with breach of trust with fraudulent intent involving a value of $10,000 or more.

A lot more, allegedly …

A probable cause affidavit accompanying the warrant for Shaffer’s arrest claimed she stole a whopping $317,000 from her employer – Wiggins and Son, Inc. – between January 1, 2014 and January 14, 2019.

In addition to allegedly stealing cash “on a regular basis,” Shaffer is accused of having “falsified the daily journals and ledgers to conceal the cash thefts” and having “altered many of the cash register tapes used to determine the total sales for each day by ripping off the bottom of the tapes, or by simply throwing the cash register tapes into the trash.”

The affidavit states that facts establishing the charge were based on Shaffer’s bank records as well as forensic audit.
