Spartanburg SC ‘Swinger Deputies’ Investigation Headed To SLED

Another Palmetto State law enforcement agency is staring down a sex scandal …

Move over, Mauldin …

Last month’s salacious South Carolina law enforcement sex scandal involving that town’s police department could wind up being nothing compared to a story that is set to spark within the Spartanburg County sheriff’s office.

According to multiple sources familiar with the situation, an internal investigation into an alleged group of “swinger deputies” within the agency is about to be referred to the S.C. State Law Enforcement Division (SLED).

And when we say “swingers,” we are not referring to deputies who make use of playground equipment …

The referral to SLED has not happened yet, but we are told “it’s coming.”

Assuming such a referral is made, SLED investigators would conduct a preliminary inquiry to determine if they believe possible criminal conduct occurred. That is when a decision would be made on whether to open an investigation. In the case of the Mauldin sex scandal – which was exclusively reported by this news outlet – SLED declined to launch a formal probe of the allegations referred to its attention.

This news outlet has been provided with the names of several Spartanburg deputies who are allegedly involved in the group, however we are not publishing any of those names at this time.

Why not? Well, for starters, it may very well wind up that none of them have done anything wrong … let alone unethical or criminal.

In the Mauldin case, the issue (as we saw it, anyway) was that law enforcement officers engaged in sexual relations with one another on taxpayer time using taxpayer resources – neglecting their official duties so as to indulge their sexual desires.

Assuming the Spartanburg “swinger deputies” indulged their sexual desires on their own time with other consenting adults … is it really up to anyone else to judge?

According to our sources, the internal sheriff’s office investigation was initiated after a deputy lodged a formal complaint with the office.

“It’s been going on for years,” one source familiar with the situation told us, describing “parties held at local hotels.”

We are also informed that at least one deputy rumored to be involved with the group has resigned in the wake of the formal complaint being filed.

Stay tuned …

It has been a rough year for Spartanburg sheriff Chuck Wright. In addition to being the poster sheriff for abusing the Palmetto State’s notoriously lax civil asset forfeiture laws, his officers keep getting popped on domestic violence charges.
