Law enforcement officials in the Midlands region of South Carolina are investigating an alleged threat involving students at Lexington High School.

According to our sources, a student at the school sent a so-called “manifesto” to several individuals late last week indicating that Tuesday would be a “day of reckoning” at the government-run school in Lexington, S.C.  The manifesto was reportedly signed “the mystic.”

Details of the document have yet to be publicized, and so far local media – led by reporter Isabella Cueto of The (Columbia, S.C.) State newspaper – have only reported that “there are more police officers than usual on campus” due to as-yet-unspecified “activity on social media.”

School officials have sent several cryptic messages to parents informing them that they are investigating unspecified “rumors” of threatening communications – and are working in cooperation with officers from the Lexington County sheriff’s department to address the situation.

Lexington High School has an enrollment of approximately 1,700 students.

Sources familiar with the threatening messages say it was sent from a male student to several of his classmates last Friday.  Several parents are concerned that school and district officials did not notify them about the message sooner.

“The district didn’t send out anything to the parents until (Tuesday) and the email was sent to the kids from the guy that made the threats on Friday,” a source with direct knowledge of the situation told us.

In an apparently unrelated incident, another student at the school posted messages on social media signaling he intended to “harm himself and others.”
