Longtime Lexington County School District One board member Grady Harmon abruptly resigned his position on Monday.

Here’s the message that was sent early Monday afternoon to district staff (and late Monday afternoon to members of the media) …

Today, March 26, 2018, the Chair and Secretary of the Lexington County School District One Board of Trustees met with Board Member Grady V. Harmon about a situation that was brought to the board’s attention over the weekend.

As a result of that meeting, Mr. Harmon resigned from the Board of Trustees effective immediately due to personal reasons.

In his resignation letter, Mr. Harmon stated that he found it impossible to complete his term of office for personal reasons which included that of his health and the health of his immediate family members.

District officials declined to elaborate on the situation, although we’re told more information may be available soon.

Harmon had served on the board since 2006.  A staunch social conservative, he listed his occupation as a “minister” (well, a “pulpit fill-in”) for the Ridge Baptist Association in Monetta, S.C.

UPDATE: Oh boy …
