DOMESTIC DISPUTE TURNS VIOLENT …

Two law enforcement officers in Jasper County, S.C. were shot and critically wounded late Thursday as they responded to a domestic dispute involving a live shooter, law enforcement sources have confirmed to FITSNews.

One of the officers wounded in the firefight is Justin Smith – a second-year deputy with the Jasper County sheriff’s department.  The other is Kelvin Grant– a seventh-year officer with the Hardeeville, S.C. police department.

What happened?

According to our sources, a suspect emerged from a Hardeeville residence as officers were responding to the domestic disturbance report.  The suspect fired multiple rounds at the two officers – wounding both of them critically.

Other responding officers returned fire – killing the suspect.

Smith was reportedly shot in the neck and arm.  Grant was reportedly shot in the arm.  Both were wearing bulletproof vests at the time of the shooting.

Both officers were airlifted to Memorial Health hospital in Savannah, Georgia where they are reportedly critical condition.  Grant’s condition is said to be stable, however.

Local media outlets are reporting that Smith was shot in the shoulder and is also in stable condition, however that is inconsistent with the information we are receiving.

As it does with all officer-involved shootings, the S.C. State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is leading an investigation into the incident.
