GAMECOCK QUARTERBACK GOES DOWN WITH SEPARATED SHOULDER
|| By FITSNEWS || University of South Carolina starting quarterback Connor Mitch is out for the season after suffering a separated shoulder during the Gamecocks 26-22 loss to Kentucky on Saturday night in Williams-Brice Stadium.
The 6-foot-3, 211-pound sophomore from Raleigh, N.C. suffered the injury attempting to recover a fumble late in the first half.
Mitch’s injury was initially reported as a shoulder sprain, but head coach Steve Spurrier acknowledged its severity after the game.
Mitch was named South Carolina’s starting quarterback by Spurrier prior to the Gamecocks’ 17-13 season-opening win over North Carolina.
He completed four of seven passes for 43 yards against the Wildcats prior to being injured – and ran for seven yards (including a touchdown run to put the Gamecocks ahead 7-0).
Mitch is 1-1 as South Carolina’s starter. He will be replaced by junior Perry Orth – a former walk-on from Ponte Vedra, Florida.

Did an athlete shove you in a locker as a kid? Damn you are one sad person. Plenty of football players get treated well in colleges all over the country, even if the football team isn’t anything to write home about. BFD. It is part of college life. Why single out USC?

Regarding CM and BMOC, he’s had the reputation of being a cocky asshole since he arrived on campus. He’s Garcia with a bigger ego. Lattimore was 50x the player Mitch is and was 1/50th the cocky asshole Mitch is. So to see Mitch get knocked around by unranked teams may just humble him a little. I doubt it, I expect he’ll transfer once he realizes that mommy and daddy will have to watch him stand on the sidelines while a walk-on has replaced him. I doubt his ego can deal with that.

Garcia while he played well was Steven for the the president. when he started screwing up all the stuff about his kid and girlfriend and father came up. Being a gladiator at a university is dangerous business. You are one injury away from being everyone’s darling to “what a dissapointment”. Some of these kids can’t handle this very well. We hear about them later in less favorable context – often a mug shot or a dead body.

President Pastides has made clear in public and private statements that student athletes are what the public wants to see and see winning. Maybe you guys were still important under Sorensen but now you are expendable and loathed by the public. It’s a tough world out there and that is reflected in football – it’s a battle -a battle like the one against IS and a battle like the one against liberals like you. There is more public value in a single quarter of football than al you talks, papers and courses. We are at war and we need gladiators in thearena and gladiators on the yield like Pat Tillman.

That kid is a delicate flower. My 4 year old falls down like that at LEAST once a day.
Perry Orth is hungry while Mitch was entitled. He has a great work ethic. Orth came to USC without a scholarship and walked on. Without a scholarship, he was forced to get a job to pay his tuition and bagged groceries at Publix. In addition to working a fulltime job at Publix, he went to school, and met the football summer requirements which included early morning runs, weight training, conditioning, study sessions to learn plays, academic tutoring sessions, etc.
I thought Perry Orth looked pretty solid during the few snaps he got during the UNC game after Mitch jammed his thumb. IMO Orth made a damned fine effort against Kentucky, despite the outcome. Seems like there’s some solid raw talent there that just needs the “maturity” and experience factor- not unlike the Garcia/Shaw transition. He may just turn out to be a contender, if he’s willing to work his ass off in practice.
