In fact according to the latest Real Clear Politics data, he’s drawing precisely 0.5 percent support … which is the lowest total of any candidate running for either nomination (well, any candidate not named Lindsey Graham).
LOLz.
Anyway, Chafee finds himself in the news because he had the audacity to cut to the chase of the Democratic Party’s open borders (a.k.a. illegal immigration) obsession.
“We’re right on immigration,” Chafee told a summer gathering of Democrats in Minneapolis, Minnesota last week. “The fastest growing voting bloc in the country. Of course we want that people to be treated with respect and to vote Democratic.”

Finding a good path to citizenship, even for illegals, is a worthy goal. Just letting anybody and everybody come in is a formula for doom. Why is this not obvious to everyone? That’s not a racist position. It’s a sane one.

I think if you read Chafee’s quote in context he said “fastest growing demographic of course we’d like them to vote Democratic” – he’s talking about the Hispanics that are citizens either by birth or have become naturalized through the legal process. Flip – I’ve pointed this out before and I know it’s like rain falling on a roof – but here’s the deal. Let’s agree there is 11.5 million illegal immigrants. Most have been here since 2005. That means the vast majority have kids that were born say between 2001 and 2008. Those 2001 kids, will be 15 in this election. They can’t vote. They’re citizens but they can’t vote. But come 2020 – kis born 2001 and 2002, they’ll vote. In 2024, kids born between 2001 and 2006 will vote. Let’s just say for argument, that those 11.5 million married up, that’s roughly 5 million couples. They’re Catholic, they don’t abort babies, they have say 2 kids. Come 2028, all those little 10 million kids, who were born here, are already here, are citizens right now. They’ll be voting for the party that doesn’t threaten to deport their Mom and Dad. They’ll vote for the party that doesn’t demean them with insults and hatred. Now, are you in the GOP gonna come up with a way to offset those 10 million new voters? At your current run rate, not even close. Do you understand your issue now? It’s not the undocumented that are the voters, it’s their American citizen children.

I am for controlled borders and fair trade not free trade. I think both our border situation and the free trade policies mostly developed by Republicans have hurt the American middle class tremendously. However, you can’t be a Libertarian and not be for open borders. You can’t be a laissez faire capitalist and not be for open borders.
Its just how pure capitalism works. Whoever can do the job the cheapest gets the work. If you have Mexicans willing to live 10 people in single wide mobile home and work for $2 and hour a laissez fair pure capitalist would say give me that all day.
