TREY HARRELL ISN’T RUNNING FOR THE S.C. STATE HOUSE
|| By FITSNEWS || One of the hottest rumors in Palmetto political circles at the moment involves Trey Harrell, son of former S.C. Speaker of the House Bobby Harrell (who resigned his office last fall after pleading guilty to ethics charges).
According to the S.C. State House buzz, the younger Harrell – an attorney at the Charleston, S.C.-based Peper Law Firm – has been mulling a challenge to freshman S.C. Rep. Mary Tinkler, who was elected to represent S.C. House District 114 last fall in the aftermath of his father’s fall from grace.
Republicans are targeting this seat as their top “pick-up” priority in the 2016 legislative elections.
So … are the rumors true? Is the former Speaker’s son really running to reclaim his father’s old seat?
No.
A confidant of the younger Harrell told us the rumors are “absolutely not true.”
“He would win, without a doubt – but he would be coming to Columbia to be part of a complete sh*t show,” the source said. “That’s the way I look at it.”
The advisor added that Harrell would likely be placed on terrible committees “forever” and “always be a target.”

Harrell, whose wife Amber is expecting the couple’s first child this fall, also doesn’t live in the district.
According to our sources, he reportedly bought a house in the Belle Hall neighborhood of Mount Pleasant, S.C. recently. That area is represented by S.C. Rep. Chip Limehouse – who has another pitched battle on his hands after narrowly surviving last year’s GOP primary.
