THE GOLSON SWEEPSTAKES … AND DESHAUN WATSON’S BOAST

|| By FITSNEWS || The University of South Carolina football program is not pursuing former Notre Dame starting quarterback (and Myrtle Beach, S.C.) native Everett Golson, head coach Steve Spurrier said this week.

“We are not pursuing him,” Spurrier told The (Columbia, S.C.) State Newspaper. “We are not really in that.”

South Carolina was one of several schools reportedly in the running for Golson’s services.  Guess not.

Golson has visited, Florida, Florida State and Georgia – and may have other visits lined up.

In other quarterback news, Clemson University’s sophomore signal caller Deshaun Watson told USA Today this week that he made the decision to play in last fall’s rivalry win over the Gamecocks.

Oh, and that he was never going to lose to South Carolina.

“My high school coach was a big Clemson fan and I told him, as long as I’m the starting quarterback here, I’m not going to lose to South Carolina,” he said.  “It’s a big rivalry. Who wouldn’t want to play in that game? It was a family decision. They put it on me, and it’s what I wanted to do. Of course people say I have a future down the road (to protect), but I live in the moment and that moment was then and I wanted to play.”

Wait …

They put it on him?

What a classy program, huh?  Willing to let teenagers who don’t know any better (and who are always going to decide to play if given the chance) jeopardize their careers like that ….

Maybe if you had that in the 80 win category it would be more impressive. Now UNC’s mastery over Clemson in basketball at home is something to really marvel at. That is on one level absolutely amazing, and on another, pitifully embarrassing. But that football record should keep you warm at night. It’s nice to know that 5 year run drove you shitkickers absolutely crazy. Hold on to your history, granny. Oh, and bless your heart.

that is a lower winning percentage than Spurrier has over Clemsux overall, and Spurriers is a hell of a lot better than the winning percentage than Dabo has over USC since he has been at Clemtech. So stay on that rocking chair and remember them glory years of 1904 and things like that.

Considering that he plays at Memorial Stadium, former home of the “Clemson Negro Cabin Community”, his decision was understandable:
———————————————————————————-
“There was once a community where Clemson’s Death Valley stands today.

It was called Negro cabins, home to the men and women who worked in the
dining hall, the barber shop, in the homes of faculty members — all the
people who before now were mostly invisible in the history of Clemson
University.

Rhondda Thomas, an associate professor of English at Clemson, discovered the
community while researching the lives of convicts who built the first
buildings. They were known as slaves of the state, on loan to do hard
time building a place they could never hope to go.

As debate continues about whether the university should change the name of Tillman
Hall because Pitchfork Ben Tillman was an avowed racist, Thomas and a
growing number of professors and students have been collecting the
stories of the African Americans who helped Clemson become what it is
today.

Thomas has recently found the convict labor went on longer than she
originally thought, until 1913, when construction dwindled and the
school could not afford to pay the state’s fees.

That was when the university turned to a legion of paid service employees and housed them in the cabin community. There was a black barber, musicians for cadet
dances, farmhands, servants to faculty members.”

The same Clemson that out ranks USCe in every academic poll?

a face in the crowd May 13, 2015 at 8:42 pm

Actually, Squishy, you might want to do some checking on that. See the 276-300 section here. CU not included at all? http://www.timeshighereducation.co.uk/world-university-rankings/2014-15/world-ranking

Squishy123 May 14, 2015 at 9:12 am

Interesting, I’ve worked in higher education for nearly 25 years and never heard of that poll.

Also interesting according to this poll the following schools are better schools than USCe. UC-Irvine, UC-Santa Cruz, Univ. of Rochester, Univ of Miami, UC-RIverside, Yeshiva University, Stony Brook University, State University of NY – Albany, Univ of HI- Manoa, Univ. of South Florida.

a face in the crowd May 14, 2015 at 11:16 am

You would not have heard of it, as Clemson only reports the results of polls it can manipulate.

Squishy123 May 14, 2015 at 1:13 pm

So you’re saying Clemson uses the same polling strategies the USCe IMBA program uses.

a face in the crowd May 14, 2015 at 1:34 pm

That depends. Where does the USCe IMBA program stand in legitimate rankings? If they are as irrelevant as CU in those rankings, then yes.

What exactly did he do that won? In reality he handed the ball off to a guy, but since it was a forward hand off it counted as a pass. Your WR beat USC on the run around, not Watson. They wouldn’t let him drop back to pass, and Ward was too stupid to make an adjustment. Semantic stats though I guess. Sure you won for the first time since 09, I guess you are bad now huh? Ward wont be calling the defense next year, but neither will your old OC Morris. I suspect Watson wont have as good of a year and wont even beat USC with the edamame fart not having his right hand to call the plays for him. #soybeanwind

South Carolina never lost to a back up qb, 3rd string rb, and a point guard at WR all starting in the same game 2 years in a row either. Apparently also while having according to the Taters the most over rated DE in the country sacking the same QB 4 times in 1 game and 6.5 times in those same two

Reply
Cush May 14, 2015 at 2:06 pm

Since we’re all history buffs here, at least Clemson has never lost to anyone 66 times. The yard birds had a good run but their time has passed. What? You think ole Slurrier is getting sharper after drinking all those Coors Lights and reaching Methuselah level age? How else do you explain him keeping that cull Ward around for another season? At least Dabo was coherent enough to tell Steele to hit the bricks when there was a problem.

Squishy123 May 15, 2015 at 4:59 pm
