By FITSNEWS || The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) has initiated its response protocols for handling a case of the deadly Ebola virus.
And yes, the entire South Carolina Lowcountry just freaked out … like “a lot.”
Officials at the government-run institution insist the patient they are examining is a “low risk” for the virus – and that a positive test is “not probable” – but they have initiated precautions regardless.
MUSC was one of two facilities visited last month by S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control (SCDHEC) director Catherine Templeton – who arrived unannounced (posing as a symptomatic patient) in an effort to test the facilities defenses.

According to Templeton, SCDHEC can make a preliminary determination regarding an Ebola infection within a matter of hours – however the tests conducted by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) take several days. It’s not immediately clear in this case whether such tests have been initiated.
Ebola is a virological taxon first discovered in 1976. Last December, an outbreak of the virus began in West Africa which has since infected 9,000 victims (killing 4,500 of them). Most of the deaths have occurred in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea – but there have been four confirmed cases in the United States (including one death).
Ebola is spread through bodily fluids. After an incubation period ranging from two days to three weeks, Ebola victims begin experiencing nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea – at which point they are contagious. Eventually their kidneys and livers begin to shut down, a process accompanied by mass internal hemorrhaging. There is no treatment and no cure for the virus. Also, Ebola has a fifty percent mortality rate – meaning one out of every two people who contract the disease die from it.
In other words, it’s the very last thing you want spreading in your back yard … especially in Charleston, S.C., which has been ranked as one of America’s top tourism destinations.
This isn’t the first Ebola scare in the Palmetto State. Two weeks ago, a United Airlines flight was grounded in Columbia, S.C. after a passenger had a nosebleed. A stewardess on that flight – exercising an overabundance of caution – refused to let any passengers disembark until the individual in question had received treatment.

Catherine Templeton showed up to MUSC as a “symptomatic patient”??? My initial thoughts, if MUSC doesn’t know who she is, what does that say? 2nd, if they do know her then they probably just told her to cut back on the Gin and Tonics.
Why would an emergency room staff know who she is???? Pffft! She is nobody special. She is just another wasteful power freak government worker.

The average South Carolinian lives in a constant state of fear, so of course they’re freaking out over an illness that has yet to kill a single American within our borders. What they need to worry about is heart disease, diabetes, strokes, childhood obesity, domestic violence, syphilis, HIV and all the other deadly health problems that actually plague the state now.
