Clemson, S.C.—Clemson Head Football Coach Dabo Swinney announced Monday that he has dismissed quarterback Chad Kelly from the school’s football team.
“I have dismissed Chad Kelly for conduct detrimental to our program,” said Swinney. “He has had a pattern of behavior that is not consistent with the values of our program. I hope he will mature and grow from this and become the man and player I know he can be. I wish him nothing but the best in the future academically and athletically.”
Kelly red-shirted the 2012 season, then suffered a torn ACL in the 2013 Spring Game. But, he came back to play by the September 7 S.C. State game. He played in five games overall in 2013 and was 10-17 passing for 58 yards. He added 16 rushes for 117 yards and a touchdown, including 56 yards on seven rushes at Virginia.
The native of Niagara Falls, N.Y. was in a three-way competition at quarterback this spring along with senior Cole Stoudt and freshman Deshaun Watson. Kelly completed 10-18 passes for 113 yards, but threw a pair of interceptions in the April 12 Spring Game.

Everyone in Tiger Town was fed up with Kelly’s act – coaches, fans, other students, players – he is a hot dog, self absorbed baby, has been since high school, and he isn’t good enough on the field to carry it off. He needs to transfer and play elsewhere, and now that he has been kicked off the team, he won’t have to sit for a season.
Watson is clearly the future of the program, and the sooner they can get him on the field, the better. Still, they will lose to FSU as long as Winston is there and will have to get lucky to beat Carolina – I don’t see a win vs the Gamecocks until 2016 when Watson has had two years under his belt and they et Carolina at home.
Stout is smart and cool headed, but his arm is weak, and he is an awkward runner. They should get by the other ACC teams, but will lose to FSU, UGA and USC, and probably lose the Chick Filet bowl to a stronger SEC opponent like Auburn, LSU or Bama. So 8-5, 9-4, 10-3 season, good enough for most Clemson fans. If they luck up and get by Georgia, who might not be ready, and can beat SC at home, which is possible, they will still probably wind up playing a better SEC opponent in the bowl game and losing.
Despite what the haters say, I don’t see them losing to Louisville, Ga Tech or BC. They are much better than their other opponents.
