A credible Democrat will challenge the scandal-scarred politician for his seat in the S.C. House of Representatives this fall.
Mary Tinkler – who managed her father’s unsuccessful S.C. Senate campaign two years ago – is now throwing her own hat in the ring, looking to capitalize on the myriad of public corruption allegations that have dogged Harrell over the past two years.
“She will have money,” one Democrat familiar with Tinkler’s candidacy tells FITS.
Tinkler waited to file her campaign paperwork until the very last day of the partisan filing period – which ended on Sunday at noon.
Harrell wasn’t the only ethically challenged “Republican” to receive a surprise electoral challenge in the final days before the filing deadline. S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley also drew an unexpected primary challenge from an Upstate attorney who is also expected to run a well-funded campaign.

Street talk down here last night is that Toal is bailing out on Harrell. She got what she wanted. And that was before we had even heard there is a Democrat running against Harrell. Another chapter in the book.

Judging from her fathers ethics disclosures she kept, which are way excellent, she will no doubt have the money from all those attorneys who love Paul Tinkler coming her way; also. This is a viable indication that things are bad for Mr. Harrell but those Harrells got the goods on everyone so this is after all and I need not remind you reader; SC: so you never ever know :); because when push comes to shove, Bobby is in some inimical way, my primo-en-ley . . . hang in there Bobby . . . help on the way!

I know Mary and Paul Tinkler, live in their district, and look forward to helping Mary defeat the ultra-corrupt Bobby Harrell. I am neither Republican nor Democrat but Independent. Many of my neighbors are centrists like me and are sick and tired of Harrell’s abuse of his power. Mary will be like a breath of spring air, serving her constituents instead of herself.
