SC Political Soap Opera Update

In case you missed it (“ICYMI” as the cool kids say) a socially conservative lawmaker from the South Carolina Upstate is embroiled in a messy separation from her husband – a political consultant who has dropped some seismic allegations against her.

Yeah … and you thought “Keckstrom” was the only B-grade political soap opera in this hillbilly haven?

Here’s our story on the drama surrounding S.C. Rep. Donna Wood (R-Spartanburg) – who has been accused by her husband Kerry Wood of using her position as a public official to threaten him and improperly involve local law enforcement in their domestic dispute.

Well, Kerry Wood took to his Facebook page again this week to warn of a “coming storm” in this messy drama.

“A storm is coming … I have repeatedly asked for an agreement in writing that she has everything she is going to take from me (as I sit in an empty house) and that she will leave me alone,” he writes. “She refuses and daily I get phone calls of more lies she has told. The support I have received has been overwhelming. Thanks to so many of you out there who know the truth and have offered your support. Several have advised me not to stoop to her level, not to go dark, not to be vindictive. I am not going to do that, but I am not going to be a floor mat either. I am going to simply do what I do best and that will be to remove an incumbent from their seat. Thank you all so much for the support, the advice, and even for the humor many have handed me in this. Now just warning about the coming storm and to let you know that no matter how bad things are about to look, I will remain ok.”

Yikes …

Kerry Wood goes on to say he will be running a Republican candidate against his wife – whose candidacy he managed during the most recent election cycle.

“I tried taking the high road for months, but when someone is relentless, what do you do?” he wrote. “I run candidates all the time to take out incumbents… just taking on another race and will run to win like I always do. It is just inevitable that this one will be personal. I completely funded her last campaign (about $20K) but she said I didn’t care enough or I would have given her more. Just last month I gave her data and walking list to her. I let her friend into my storage unit to get her campaign signs and all the while asking for a simply statement that she would leave me alone and she flat tells me she won’t. I’m a big believer that if the bully won’t stop, at some point you have to knock down the bully.”

Wow …

It gets better …

In a later comment, Kerry Wood accuses his wife of being … well, nuts.

“She has been told by a councilor that she need professional psychiatric help,” he writes. “I have (a) letter from her where she even admits she needs help and that she knows she hurts people. I’ve spent years feeling sorry for her, but now I have to take care of myself.”

Hmmmm …

Here’s all the drama, including a nice “tornado” visual.

Yeah …

FITS attempted to get a response from Donna Wood, but up to this point she and her attorney – liberal Spartanburg, S.C. Rep. Doug Brannon – have not responded to our requests.

You know? That may actually be the smart play here …
