Today’s Tuneage: “Handlebars”

So here’s one of our favorite fusion songs of all-time, “Handlebars” by Flobots – a Denver, Colorado-based Indie hip-hop band.

Off of their 2007 Fight With Tools album, the song is “about the idea that we have so much incredible potential as human beings to be destructive or to be creative,” according to the band’s lead singer Jamie Laurie (a.k.a. “Jonny 5”).

“It’s tragic to me that the appetite for military innovation is endless, but when it comes to taking on a project like ending world hunger, it’s seen as outlandish. It’s not treated with the same seriousness,” Laurie told MTV.

To us it’s even more prophetic than any narrow political ideology – it’s an illustration (especially when you listen to the lyrics while watching the song’s animated video) of what happens when unchecked, taxpayer-subsidized aggression is permitted to run wild.  And no … it’s not a pretty sight.

Enjoy …
