I doubt if this rises to the level of publication as a news story but it’s a pet peeve of mine so I’ll give it a shot.
When I attend USC football games I park on Old Dairy Road which is one block south of Bluff Road east of Williams Brice stadium. I park way down Old Dairy about a mile from the stadium. I can afford private parking but like the exercise. When I walk east towards the stadium there are a few parking lot operators who who have blocked off public parking spaces on the street with traffic cones. It’s difficult enough for families to shell out $60 for football tickets. If public parking isn’t available they have to spend another $10 – $40.
I contacted the Richland County Sheriff’s Dept. traffic division. They took down all the information and promised to look into it early in the season. The public parking spaces are still blocked off. My guess is that the practice of blocking off public parking spaces isn’t confined to Old Dairy. Maybe the cops are too busy busting students for underage drinking in the Bojangles parking lot.

Dave – I’ve always lucked out and gotten a free spot at the SCETV lot right next to the stadium but I agree with you, it’s gotten kind of outrageous down there in recent years. As for busting students for underage drinking? I’m with you 100 percent on that … it’s ridiculous. A shameful misappropriation of law enforcement resources in light of all the violence going down elsewhere in the city. Thanks for writing man. Appreciate the letter.

The thing that bothers me about football games at Williams-Brice is the way they treat the State Troopers. The State Highway Patrol who by the way are forced to work the games (on their weekend off) are required to work traffic before and after the games. Unlike the Troopers who work the Clemson games, the Patrolmen working USC games are required to PURCHASE a FULL-PRICE ticket if they want to come into the stadium between their shifts. Way to keep it classy….
But the diesel fumes from all those tractors is a big negative.
It’s not like they’re volunteering their time, they’re getting paid while they’re out there directing traffic. Are they required to come inside the stadium? If not, then why should they be let in for free? Just because they have a badge and a gun?
Yeah, enough with the cop worship. We pay them to do what they do.

A ticket to a Big Eacc football game is of no value.
Not only that, but patroling the two roads leading to the pasture isn’t that hard…though the tractor traffic does mean you will not get home until 3:00 am after a noon kickoff.
Snort… you dirt peckers are so funny. Maybe if Clemson moved their stadium off campus out to an industrial park it would speed up things. I mean if they follow USC’s plan they’d have all kinds of truck and heavy equipment repair facilities along their route home… maybe even pass through some sketchy ‘hoods too.
