U.S. Senate candidate Nancy Mace ventured into one of her primary opponents’ back yards this week – speaking to more than fifty members of the Spartanburg Tea Party.

Spartanburg, of course, is home to S.C. Sen. Lee Bright – a local favorite who has been courting these activists for years.

How’d she do?

According to one activist who attended the event Mace was “refreshing.” Meanwhile one Bright supporter acknowledged to FITS that Mace “did well.”

“There were a lot of heads nodding,” he said.

Mace – a first-time candidate – is vying with Bright and social conservative businessman Richard Cash for the role of “anti-Graham.” In fact she’s been labeled by the press as the most “electable” of the three announced challengers to Graham – who is looking increasingly vulnerable given his far left positions on numerous issues.

“Every single person is driven by a different issue, some cover the right to life, some are veterans, some are tea party, some are passionate about individual liberty, some believe like I do that the Second Amendment isn’t up for debate, but the one common denominator, the one common thread we all have is the Constitution,” Mace told the crowd. “I want to be the glue that brings all corners of the Republican Party together with the Constitution and some common sense.”

The GOP primary for the U.S. Senate seat held by Graham is scheduled for June 10, 2014. Assuming no candidate receives 50 percent of the vote, a runoff would be held two weeks later between the top two finishers.

“In fact she’s been labeled by the press as the most “electable” of the three announced challengers to Graham” Other than FITSNEWS, who is the “press” that has applied these labels?

She’s hands down the frontrunner for anyone actually paying
attention to this race. I’ve read a few articles where the media don’t
even mention other Graham opponents, but just her.

“frontrunner” as in ahead of the incumbent? Don’t think so.

Mace has absolutely no political background. She’d be the (R) equivalent to Obama, a senator who knows absolutely nothing.

Do a few terms in Congress, Nancy. Then we’ll talk senate.

I want Mulvaney to run against Graham.

Obama was inexperienced and ran for president. It’s a disaster! Ted Cruz wants to run for president and he’s inexperienced. He’s being taken seriously.
Elizabeth Colbert Busch was inexperienced running for office, that’s a disaster. Nancy Mace is inexperienced running for office, she’s being taken seriously.

Why are inexperienced democrats bad, but inexperienced republicans ok?

You know, it’s funny. Everyone says they hate career politicians. But then someone comes along who isn’t a career politician and they get reamed for not having the right kind of experience. It really just comes down to ideology.

Reply
venomachine October 9, 2013 at 1:59 pm

No, it’s more than that.

I don’t want a career politician at all, EXCEPT for Senators and the President. They wield so much more power, and must be able to comprehend the ramifications of their actions. I believe you need some experience in political office to get that kind of awareness.

I have a feeling that for 99% of the population, though, you are right. And that’s depressing.

BrokenWindows October 9, 2013 at 2:20 pm

Well, unless you want rookie senators, they have to have been in politics prior to getting there. Either in state legislatures, governorships or the US house.

So it’s gonna be hard to avoid career politicians. Which is fine. The government is more complex today. As is the entire world.

venomachine October 9, 2013 at 2:46 pm

I’m not sure about more complex, but it is faster and the info is a lot more freer flowing.

You gotta separate the wheat from the chaff and make a decision, a good one, quickly. Takes a special breed of person to do that, with a (nod to Taken) particular set of skils.

Hell, it’s not even about ideology, it’s about demagoguery & redistribution:

There is a reason they had over half the gym curtained off…!!

There is a reason that half the “people” there were actual Citadel STUDENTS and not concerned voters from the area…!?!

There is a REASON that this article and topic and MACE campaign news is NOT being covered in the rest of the media across our state.

Guest Poster, if you do NOT have the guts to use your real name then what does it say about your real MOTIVES..!!

When you get time, stop slurping your latte in downtown “RIchmond” and get back to your “office” and make a certain “confidential” phone call. You may want to make a call to Nancy Mace and ask her about “openings” on her office staff…..at the “Pentagon”….!!

I clicked on the site, saw the headline and immediately forward the story with a few remarks to several individuals. Within seconds I got responses ranging from “damn u drunk this early” to “go find your fucking glasses”

Now that I see the headline reads “into” not “in” makes all the difference

On the other hand if she had in fact taken a whiz in Lindsey’s back yard, she would have probably picked up a sizable chunk of the pervert voting bloc of the Republican Party which by all accounts is more than a mouthful

The “Tea Party” is a bogeyman developed by the Left, but also used by the “Right”, in an effort blame the dysfunction within the political system on a small minority of people that recognize something is wrong but for the most part have no idea how to “fix” it.

It’s a convenient scapegoat for the establishment pols on both sides of the aisle…hell, I listened to Matt Bevin deny any affiliation with the “Tea Party” this morning…lol

It’s a perfect vehicle by which the establishment can’t shift blame…the “Right” just does so much more subtly.

I’m really tired of ignorant politicians who simply say “the Constitution” as though that settles something. What are your thoughts on Article 3? What constitutes a “reasonable search” in the digital era? What constraints does the 10th Amendment place on the feds? How expansive is the Commerce Clause? The 2nd Amendment doesn’t mandate legal bazookas for 10 year-olds, but what about assault rifles for adults? How do the Free Exercise Clause and the Establishment Clause interact in school prayer?

If you invoke “the Constitution,” you better fucking know something about it.

Reply
southmauldin October 9, 2013 at 10:46 am

Somebody better get her a pocket sized copy of the Constitution so she can whip it out and use it like a prop like all of the other right wing idiots who don’t have a new idea.

Reply
Cicero October 9, 2013 at 11:03 am

I believe the Constitution is the closest thing Americans have to a national sacred text. It’s lasted longer than any other nation’s and enshrines our country’s best ideals. It’s to be treated with respect, not used as a prop. Her first (grammatically horrendous) fundraising appeal has this nugget: “As the first female graduate of the Citadel, I have a deep respect and devout appreciation for our Constitution.” That mawkish non sequitur encapsulates everything wrong with doltish right-wingers who cloak themselves with our founding document to mask their childish superficiality.

Perhaps a better question is: do you know someone better? Mace—a “small business owner” who did CLERICAL work for Fitsnews—is at best a mystery. At this point, she’s simply a sentient talking-points memo with baggage. Just because you don’t like Person X doesn’t mean Person Y is a better alternative. I thought conservatives learned this with Christine O’Donnell, et al.

TontoBubbaGoldstein October 10, 2013 at 9:17 am

Just because you don’t like Person X doesn’t mean Person Y is a better alternative.

In the case of Graham…anyone would almost HAVE to be a better alternative. It would be hard to find anyone who exceeds him in competence (at accomplishing the wrong things) as well as duplicitousness [spell-check says “no”. TBG says “Eff it!”] .

IE: With Obama or any other liberal Democrat…you at least know what you’ve got. Since Graham dishonestly presents himself as a conservative Republican, many in SC believe that he is. He has also been in Washington long enough to have accumulated power and contacts and he is intelligent enough to work the system, to our detriment.

TBG would rather be represented by a powerless kook or powerless imbecile than Miss Lindsey.

The Supreme Court helped break the back of segregation by using the Commerce Clause in the Heart of Atlanta Motel case, saying that segregation hurt the free flow of goods and services in the course of interstate commerce. Constitutional law is incredibly hard to grasp and when rightwingers say that are united around it, I know they don’t know diddly squat about it. Do they know that Roe v. Wade allowing abortion was premised upon a constitutional right to privacy? For a group that demands privacy and hates government, the Far Right knows damn little about privacy and the rights enumerated and unenumerated in the Bill of Rights. How bout that Miss Mace? Can you spell these big words, honey? If your GOP needs to know about the Constitution, ya’ll need to ask Democrats and the ACLU.

Reply
Cicero October 9, 2013 at 6:08 pm

Welllllll, the average Dem-on-the-street can’t spell “enumerated” so let’s not turn this into a larger thing. My only point is that if you’re going to run not as an experienced politician, an accomplished military officer, or at least a for-real businessperson/lawyer/farmer/chemist/whatever, don’t claim your biggest qualification is protecting the Constitution when you don’t know what the thing says. Mace has never said anything about it other than dashboard-saint jingoism.

Reply
Slartibartfast October 11, 2013 at 10:09 pm

I know about the Constitution, like the Obama Administration is full of crap when they say the House can’t pick and choose what to fund, but what the hell is “dashboard-saint jingoism?” Are we making a left-handed swipe at people who believe in the company of saints? ..or just people who believe in the basic goodness of America? After all, one man’s jingoist is another man’s patriot. You are, after all, a relativist..

Mr. Folks,

Your poll interests me, would it be possible to do the poll again but with just Ms. Mace and Mr. Graham and only the people that voted in the first poll can vote in the second poll. The poll won’t let someone vote a second time so there obviously is a list of people that voted so I should think it possible to limit voters to a modified poll to those that have already voted the first time.

Also, do these polls allow or exclude “guest” votes. I would think to see “true” results of such polls only regular posters would be allowed to vote, say someone with 20 or 30 posts to their name. How does that work?
