COLUMBIA, S.C. (October 8, 2013) – The No. 14/12 South Carolina football team moved its practice into Williams-Brice Stadium on Tuesday afternoon on a cool and rainy day in Columbia. The Gamecocks (4-1, 2-1 SEC) are preparing for Saturday’s SEC matchup with the Arkansas Razorbacks (3-3, 0-2 SEC).

All-America defensive end Jadeveon Clowney did not practice on Tuesday, but spoke with the media about the events that unfolded last Saturday night when he did not play against Kentucky due to a muscle strain around his ribcage. “It was a miscommunication between me and the coaches and the trainer. I should have handled it different.” Clowney indicated he originally suffered the injury during the UCF game, and aggravated it on Wednesday during practice.

Clowney put a stop to those who feel he should take the rest of the year off. “That’s people’s opinion. I’m out here with my team every day, practicing with my team. People can say what they want to say. They’re not here. They’re not in the locker room or around the coaching staff with us. I know what’s going on around here. We’re 4-1 and just trying to keep winning games. That’s all we can do.”

Clowney remains questionable for the Arkansas game and does not know when he’ll return, but has been getting regular treatment from the athletics training staff. “It depends on how I’m feeling. It’s bothering me. I can’t really run right now. When I start back running, I will be out there.”

Clowney confirmed he is still committed to the team. “I know my situation with the team. Our goals are still out there for us. I dedicate myself to this team and this university. I’m just going to do what I have to do to get better and come back out there and play.

“I enjoy playing (football),” added Clowney. “I come out here every day since I’ve been here. You all should know that by now. I just take it one day at a time. I’m in college. I’m playing for this university right now. I’m going to do that and get ready for the future. I’m not looking past this week. We’ve got Arkansas coming up. I’m here to play for my team and my university.

“I haven’t played my last game yet,” noted Clowney. “I will be back on the field. I just don’t know how long it will take to get back but I’m going to be back playing. I’m going to keep doing my thing, keep playing football and moving forward.”

Saturday’s game is set for 12:21 p.m. ET (11:21 a.m. local) at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium (72,000) in Fayetteville. The game will be televised by SEC TV, with Dave Neal and Andre Ware in the booth and Cara Capuano on the sidelines. The SEC TV package is picked up in the Palmetto State by WOLO in Columbia, WMMP in Charleston, WSPA in Greenville/Spartanburg and WWMB in Myrtle Beach/Florence.

A lot of nasty things were said about him by USC fans and enemies alike. I understand the venom spewed by Clemson and UGA fans, but the talk from many USC fans was embarrassing and only confirmed they had no clue about how to measure a DE’s performance.

Clowney, by the way, is having a good year. Yeah, it’s short on highlight-reel hits and decapitations, but he’s being schemed against with every team we play. We no longer have Devin Taylor to seal the strong side and prevent teams from running away from him, and teams are double and triple teaming him and using the TEs to chip him. If you pay attention to him during the games, he’s playing with good effort (better than many others) and is still making plays when teams are foolish enough to single block him or not run away from him.

Yeah, whatever, Doo Doo!! Something has been wrong every game this year. Guess Jayzee or what ever that douche bags name is put a bug in your ear. When you sign with him, USuCk will be under investigation, again!! The USuCk Athletic Department is in full spin mode!!

I totally agree with you, the Cocks are in serious meltdown mode. It’s a shame that beating the poor old Gamecocks won’t be much of an accomplishment for Clemson. I wish the Cocks could be a more challenging opponent for your team. When Clemson looks back on this National Championship year, beating USuCk will be an almost embarrassing footnote. We are truly sorry.

Agreed, it will be totally laughable the way Tajh and crew will take apart the pathetic SC secondary…what secondary? When Tajh is in NYC at the Heisman presentation (not saying he will win the thing, the Duck QB is my pick, but Tajh will be there), he can wave to Doo-doo on TV!

You are so right. The only thing that concerns me just a little bit is that Tajh, and all the other wonderful Clemson offensive players, have been rated pretty high coming into the Carolina game for the past few seasons. I’m happy you feel things are back on track for your team this year. You should be proud of a truly splendid Clemson program. Congratulating you in advance seems proper.

Funny thing is I am not a Clemson fan, I’m not a Gamecock fan. I’m from Texas (and yes they should have fired Mack Brown at least 2 years ago). I simply think that you have to give credit where credit is due. And call a bullshitter a bullshitter….this Clowney bozo is ridiculous really. He just demonstrated himself to be a self-serving prick. He doesn’t give a rat’s ass about his team nor his team mates, his coaches. He’s already bought and paid for at another level. At least its known now that he is a whore. And typically whores don’t have a big heart. I don’t think Clemson will be in the Nat’l Championship game but they will come close, mainly due to strength (or lack thereof) schedule. I think by the time they get to Columbia in Nov. this Gamecock team will be so demoralized and have so much “noise” going on not related to play on the field, that yeah, I think Clemson will hand them a loss this year, a notable one. Clemson’s most notable game is going to be Florida State, I already have my tickets! :)

headhanginglow October 9, 2013 at 5:02 pm

That is funny.

Original Good Old Boy October 9, 2013 at 12:58 pm

LOL. This is the same shit I’ve heard the past two years. I can’t predict the future, so I don’t know what will really happen this year, but I can observe the past, and the last two years Clemson has come into that game with a team they were confident would kick our asses — that is, until Dabo looks across the field at Spurrier and shits his pants. Y’all really should have learned your lesson from your coach, who ran his mouth like a fool after the game in 2011 and then had to eat his words last year. I don’t know what will happen but there will be a ton of pressure on Clemson to avoid FIVE STRAIGHT LOSSES to USC.

” I’m out here with my team every day, practicing with my team.” Oh Bullshit…he has missed multiple practices all year long. Now he’s starting to miss games.

This BS is totally laughable…why doesn’t he just come out and say he quits, will have surgery on his foot or whatever it is that is bothering him that particular day and then wait for the combine. Like he needs to, he has already been “approached”….my ass, he’s already been bought and paid for. The only “mystery” will be revealed in the draft next Spring when the NFL team that’s supporting him and his fam will finally be revealed.
I recommend he have a hysterectomy at the same time he gets his feet done. Hopefully that would make him more level-headed and less prone to mood swings. Would also eliminate the menstrual cramps that are making his ribs hurt.
Meanwhile the Cocks are looking to go 0-3 on the road over the next three weeks and Spurrier will do a lot of looking at the bottom of a bottle. They built an entire defense around this guy and he can’t suck it up, wrap the ribs, take a Midol and get off his butt.

Casual,
You nailed it. Buth he is still quite a force for this team that struggled mightily with Kentucky. He has become a Steven Garacia distraction. He hurts his team by continuing to open his mouth. “A miscommunication between me and the coaches,” ??? What? You forgot to tell them you were hurting so bad you would not play until you went through warmups, etc? BULLSHIT. Must be all that “free” advice from Jay-Z, or whatever that parasite calls himself. Jabberdonkey Cornbread needs to learn when to be quiet. Never, never pass up an opportunity to just STFU.
Win a championship and we’ll talk.

You are a bitter fool. Not sure why you hate Clowney so much, but it says a lot about you. He has never been in trouble with the law, never failed a drug test (not that I would necessarily hold that against him), and never been suspended for missing class or violating team rules. You are a petty and small man to assume what you have about him.
Are you really that dumb to think that an NFL team is supporting him? Which one, because who knows which team will be in position to draft him. And why would an NFL team support him when it has no need to pay him anything until he’s drafted.
I know everything’s bigger in Texas. Including the fools that are born there.

He’s never missed a class because it’s being reported that he’s taking two credit hours this semester… two. I wonder what class that could be? Weightlifting 101 or maybe Football Coaching 101? I’d love to see this student-athlete’s transcript, I bet it’s nothing but 101 courses.

Reply
Original Good Old Boy October 9, 2013 at 7:33 pm

Why does it matter? He’s going to play professional football and make millions. If I were in his shoes, I would take as few classes as I could get away with. But the point still stands, he’s attending the classes he signed up for.
In any event, people in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones. Let’s take a look at Spiller’s transcript and solve the mystery of how someone can score a 10 on the wonderlic (IQ equivalent of around 80) and yet be an honors student at Clemson with a 3.5 gpa?

Hey Goober, tell your daughter she left her panties over here at my place…..AGAIN.
Man, wake the fuck up. You honestly think the draft is ‘real”? And its pretty clear he’s going to end up in Florida….now is it the Jags or the Bucs? Maybe they went halvers on the new car.
And actions speak louder than words (which no one can understand him anyway). Doo-doo don’t give a flying fuck about the school, the fans, the team, the coaches. Doo-doo cares about doo-doo not you dirt peckers that bought his #7 jersey by the truckloads.
The Chicken Curse appears to be alive and well and was last re-incarnated out of Rock Hill. I don’t hate Clowney, there isn’t anything worth hating there. He’s like a lot of others before him and a lot of others that will come after. I’ll wager 3 years from now nobody will know where he is on Sunday afternoons. Nor care.

I think your tinfoil hat needs adjusting. I’ve heard a lot of conspiracy theories, but this is the first time I’ve heard that the NFL draft is actually fake. Funny me, I always assumed they awarded picks based on seasonal performance. Also, thanks for continuing to prove my point about things from Texas. The more you type, the more you prove this.
BTW, my daughter is eight years old. Take your pedo fantasies to another board.

LOL; A remark by the “other Savior” coach who lost control of his team while at SC (putting a really inglorious end to an otherwise notable career) comes to mind:
“No doubt he could be in an NFL stadium on Sundays, whether he will be playing ball or sweeping the bleachers will be up to Derek (Watson).”

as a gamecock fan its pretty sad to see the way the spoiled fanbase is so quick to turn on someone who has done more for this school than any of the losers spitting vitriol crying, and moaning about a game and an amateur athlete. clowney doesnt owe any of you losers ANYTHING. if anything you pathetic losers need to pass the hat around and take up a collection for him, then go personallythank him for making your worthless lives meaningful for 13 days out of the year. as for espn, i wonder how much money the made in ads showing his michigan hit for months on end. will those slave-profiteers share any of the spoils with clowney? and all off season when there was no football they used him as their posterboy for college football. and then during the week when there’s no football to show, ALL SEASON LONG, they used clowney as their whippingboy to create buzz by negatively attacking him. if i was clowney, after watching spurrier sacrifice lattimore to his own ego, i’d be thinking about my future too. but look at clowney, with all the hate, he’s still got a huge smile on his face. the only thing all the fairweather gamecock fans/haters are doing is showing top recruits instate to go to georgia or alabama, because they will not be respected, protected, and one misstep and all these fat, racist, frustrated, functionally illiterate losers come flying out of the woodwork at the first sign of adversity. this being a political site its fair to say: who are these stupid morons who voted sanford and haley and graham and quiter demint and trent franks’ gaylovechild, trey gowdy- who are these idiots to judge anyone?
