A South Carolina man has been accused of misrepresenting his affiliation with The Citadel in an effort to solicit sex from male students and recent graduates of the South Carolina military college. Andy Williams, 46, of Hartsville, S.C. has been accused of stalking several cadets in an effort to facilitate homosexual liaisons – although it’s unclear at this point whether state or local law enforcement are investigating the allegations against him.

Sources tell FITS an internal investigation has been launched by the school – which has been roundly rebuked in the past for its failure to protect cadets from unwanted homosexual advances.

“(Williams) M.O. is to ‘friend’ high-ranking Republicans and noteworthy Citadel alums on Facebook, then leverage those connections to introduce himself to cadets and other young alums,” one source tells us.

Another source tells FITS Williams “impersonates himself as a Citadel graduate” and rubs shoulders with “high-profile politicos” in an effort to make himself seem important. He also claims to have worked in Washington, D.C. on behalf of the late U.S. Sen. Strom Thurmond and former U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Dole.

The former claim appears to be accurate, although the circumstances surrounding his employment for Thurmond are not clear.

“He’s psychotic,” the source told us, adding that Williams has a lengthy criminal record in multiple counties – one which includes numerous driving under the influence (DUI) arrests and fraud charges.

Williams also served time in federal prison over a decade ago for theft.

More recently, he allegedly stalked a member of the college’s Board of Visitors … which we’re told is what led to the school’s probe of his activities.

FITS attempted to contact Williams via Facebook in an effort to get his side of this story. Within moments of our request being sent, however, his Facebook page had been taken down.

Speaking of Facebook, sources tell FITS a closed group recently formed on the site that includes “hundreds of comments including screenshots of (Williams’) communications with cadets” as well as “statements given to Citadel Public Safety about his activities.”

FITS has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) in an effort to obtain any documents the school has in connection with Williams. We look forward to publishing the school’s response to our inquiry …

Based on what is written in the blog piece above, this guy tries to make himself seem important in order to set up dates with Citadel cadets, and cadets are all adults or at the very least have attained the age of consent in SC (16 y.o.)… is that about right? In light of the fact that guys lie all the time in order to get laid, the only reason that the case of Mr. Andy Williams of Hartsville is a big deal is that he has “threatened” the heterosexuality of some Citadel cadets and frankly, that says a lot more about the latent homosexual feelings of those cadets than it does the guy hitting on them.

Reply
Paul Tamburrino July 3, 2013 at 9:38 am

It has nothing to do with sexual advances. Heterosexual or Homosexual. The problem that this guy has is that he does not take no for an answer. Even that does not rise to the level of this type of concern. What deserves this attention is that he offers money in exchange for “relations”. That is called criminal solicitation. He has also threatened several that have been spooked by his advances. That is not acceptable at all. If all he did was lie and flirt, no harm no foul. This guy’s long criminal record of fraud and alcohol-related offenses are what causes concern. In fact, his apologies after the threats usually come with references to having been drunk when he did them. He can lie about being a Citadel grad, and he can lie about working in Congress and being best friends with all of the State/Local Republicans all he wants. What he can’t do is use those false boasts to intimidate or coerce folks. We don’t allow predators to stalk our females in society, so what makes it right to allow it to happen to males? It is not right for ANYONE to be intimidated or harassed. All anyone wants is for this guy to leave the “uninterested” alone. If he was doing this to my daughter, you would be reading about my arrest.

Paul is right about this guy. I met Williams at The
Citadel/USC football game in 2011 in Columbia. He presented himself as a fellow
Citadel graduate and I had no reason to think he wasn’t. He certainly seemed to
know a lot of other grads. A few days later I started getting texts (my cell
phone # isn’t hard to find since it’s also my business number.) The first text
was friendly but then more and more came, increasingly odd. I never responded
and the texts finally stopped. Annoying, but whatever. But my experience was
very different than some of his other “targets.” I started to hear
about others who had had problems with this guy and sometimes this creep didn’t
just stop, he crossed the line between “annoying” and became menacing.

I happen to know this guy. Have known him for 25+ years.

As a raging liberal, I could care less about the “homosexual angle”. I also have no allegiance to or affiliation with the Citadel.

What I can tell you is he is a charlatan and a pathological liar. He has falsely portrayed himself as so many different things over the years that pretty much anything that comes out of his mouth is a lie.

One of the many mendacious claims he has been making for almost 20 years now is that he is a Citadel grad. This is a blatant lie. He never spent so much as a day as a member of the Corps of Cadets there. As a matter of fact, he was VP of the student body at Carolina in the late 80’s.

In addition to his “numerous…DUI arrests”, I know for a fact that he spent time in the federal pen for credit card. Given the non-stop fraud he has perpetuated in the meantime, it is a borderline miracle that he is not there at the moment.
I am a firm believer in “innocent until proven guilty”; but given what I know about the guy, I have no doubt that the allegations against him are true.

Senator Thurmond had no litmus tests for employees. The majority of the young people working in his office in the 80s and 90s were to the left of the Senator on most issues including the Right to Life. He was very open minded and had many people of opposing views working for him. The man was way more progressive then most give him credit for.

1) Actually READ the entire post you intend to respond to before doing so; I AM very liberal. Not only have I never worked for Sen. Thurmond (and BTW – Andy never did either), I never voted for him. Nowhere in my post did I say this.
