WTF Is Up With Angelina Jolie’s Breasts?

There’s been no shortage of disappointing headlines recently, but the one about Hollywood A-lister Angelina Jolie’s breasts is the one that gets to us the most …

“The truth is I carry a ‘faulty’ gene, BRCA1, which sharply increases my risk of developing breast cancer and ovarian cancer,” Jolie wrote in today’s editions of The New York Times. “My doctors estimated that I had an 87 percent risk of breast cancer and a 50 percent risk of ovarian cancer, although the risk is different in the case of each woman.”

Yikes … that sounds bad.

Jolie’s solution?

“Once I knew that this was my reality, I decided to be proactive and to minimize the risk as much I could,” she wrote. “I made a decision to have a preventive double mastectomy.”

Wait … what? Mastectomy?

Jolie goes on to describe in detail the various procedures she underwent as part of her breast removal and implant ins, including something called a “nipple delay” that rules out cancer in the breast ducts behind the nipple and endeavors to save them during the reconstructive process to come.

“I do not feel any less of a woman,” Jolie adds. “I feel empowered that I made a strong choice that in no way diminishes my femininity.”

Seriously, though. Good for her. Ordinarily we’d be cracking all sorts of jokes right now but the 37-year-old hottie has always lived life on her own terms and we respect her for her decision.

Until last year, Jolie was a member of our founding editor’s “Top Five Hotties” list – currently comprised of Mila Kunis (29), Halle Berry (46), Salma Hayek (46), Kate Upton (20) and Charlize Theron (37).
