Incoming Wire: SC Obamacare Debate

We get lots of tips, letters and questions. And we’re going to try and do a better job answering/ addressing them.

For example, from our incoming wire …

First I get wind of legislation in the house that would “nullify” Obamacare. Worthy effort. I then hear the legislation passed the S.C. House and went to the State Senate where I’ve heard nothing.

Then I read a workup in a constitution oriented blog.

So I’m getting excited over the possibility South Carolina might actually show some defiance toward our federal overlords.

Then I hear the legislation is lodged in Sen. Hugh Leatherman’s Finance committee where a certain death is predicted.

I get the feeling SC will indeed set up exchanges despite the words of our governor.

SIC SEZ

sic speaking

Just to make sure we’re clear there are three Obamacare-related issues here … 1) whether South Carolina will run one of the Obamacare exchanges (or let the feds do it), 2) whether the state will further expand its Medicaid rolls as part of the new law’s implementation and 3) whether South Carolina will attempt to nullify the implementation of Obamacare within its borders.

The first decision has already been made (albeit not without some drama). South Carolina is not participating in the exchanges.

As for the second decision, the S.C. House has voted against the Obamacare Medicaid expansion – and Gov. Nikki Haley has pledged to veto it. That means it’s going to take a lot for such a proposal to make iOf course Haley has done pretty well expanding Medicaid in the Palmetto State without Obama’s help – with an estimated 130,000 new program enrollees projected for the coming year (and a $600 million increase in Medicaid spending).

On the nullification question, you’re correct – it’s even money whether such a bill will pass the left-leaning State Senate, which is why its proponents are already ramping up their rhetoric.

Obama is already being grilled for his Persecuting Political Enemies List…
When he gets caught trying to close millitary bases in our most-Patriotic states (the South) because he hates the people…I don”t think your threat will pay off…

beyond that…do you really think he would be foolish enough to close military bases in the seat of rebellion…hell he hasnt been able to close a little base in cuba that was central to his first election.

Cuba is Communist. Cuba is a hotbed of Obama support.

I could see Obama moving in to take over for the Castros when his gig plays out here…or if he is arrested in the US for Obstruction on Benghazi. He could get politcal asylum.
Or: Mis-conduct in office, like persecuting a political enemies list, (see IRS case) would be a resume-enhancer in Cuba…

I LOVE seeing the Red states refuse to set up exchanges and letting the Feds do it.
That’s the way for American working people who have not ever been able to afford insurance for their families will identify that coverage as coming from Democrats, the party that cares about people and not just pathological ideology formulated by billionaires to put more billions in their pockets.

Small business owners will outsource jobs to offset OBAMACARE. The U.S. healthcare reform (“Obama Care” or the “Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act”) is intended to pressure large and small employers through force and taxation. Enacted in July 2010, the end result will show North American companies deciding to send customer support, sales, lead generation and appointment setting jobs offshore to stay competitive or risk going out of business. Many business owners will hire a dedicated bilingual employee nearshore who is 100% qualified for their project. Financially speaking, ESL call center employees in Costa Rica are as effective as transitional in-house staff for half of the cost. This proven strategy will give small to medium sized companies the option to scale up their BPO staff without getting caught in the Obamacare challenge in 2014.
