Dinesh D’Souza: Jesus’ Pimp Hand

IT’S NOT BIGAMY, BUT …

We don’t pay much mind to politically minded “evangelicals” like Dinesh D’Souza.  Why not?  Because we don’t think any religion has a monopoly when it comes to protecting tax dollars and individual liberties.  In fact we don’t think that, we know it.  And we also know most “family values” politicians are notoriously unreliable when it comes to applying the biblical notion of “stewardship” to spending other people’s money.

Oh … and most of them aren’t anywhere near as committed to those “family values” as they would have you believe.

Which brings us to this Indian-American “prophet.”

D’Souza, 51, is president of The King’s College in New York – a “Christian liberal arts” school.  He’s also a leading faith-based author and the co-writer/ co-director of 2016: Obama’s America – the second-highest grossing political film of all-time.

According to World magazine – a Christian media outlet – D’Souza paid a visit to Spartanburg, S.C. earlier this month where he spoke to a crowd of 2,000 at a local Baptist church (receiving a standing ovation and selling a bunch of books).

Pretty ho-hum, right?

Well, yes … at least up until the part of the story that addresses D’Souza having a wife and a fiancée at the same time.

Wait … WHAT?

“Although D’Souza has been married for 20 years to his wife, Dixie, in South Carolina he was with a young woman, Denise Odie Joseph II, and introduced her to at least three people as his fiancée,” the World story reveals.

It gets better …

… near 11 p.m., event organizer Tony Beam escorted D’Souza and Joseph to the nearby Comfort Suites. Beam noted that they checked in together and were apparently sharing a room for the night in the sold-out hotel. The next morning, around 6 a.m., Beam arrived back at the hotel and called up to D’Souza’s room. “We’ll be down in 10 minutes,” D’Souza told Beam. D’Souza and Joseph came down together, and Beam took them to the airport.

The next day another conference organizer, Alex McFarland, distressed by D’Souza’s behavior, confronted him in a telephone conversation. D’Souza admitted he shared a room with his fiancée but said “nothing happened.” When I called D’Souza, he confirmed that he was indeed engaged to Joseph, but did not explain how he could be engaged to one woman while still married to another. When asked when he had filed for divorce from his wife, Dixie, D’Souza answered, “Recently.”

According to San Diego County (Calif.) Superior Court records, D’Souza filed for divorce only on Oct. 4, the day I spoke with him. Under California law, that starts the clock on a six-month waiting period for divorce. D’Souza on Oct. 4 told me his marriage was “over,” said he “is sure Denise is the one for me,” and said he had “done nothing wrong.”

Awwww …

Earlier this week, D’Souza announced that he had suspended his engagement with Joseph.  That announcement came on the heels of a conference call with members of the board at The King’s College – who will be revisiting the matter again later this week.

(Cue sad trombone …)

We’re not judging D’Souza … well, except to say that those who make a living off the gullibility of “the sheeple” really ought to have all of their “i’s” dotted and “t’s” crossed before they start bumpin’ uglies with the next one in line.

Also, how awesome is it that he got busted in South Carolina (a.k.a. the “jackrabbit” state)?  There’s something poetic about that …

UPDATE (10/18/2012): D’Souza has resigned as president of The King’s College – effective immediately.
