On the final stop of his front-running 2026 gubernatorial campaign, South Carolina attorney general Alan Wilson sat down with this reporter for a look back — and a look ahead.
Wilson talked about the ups and downs he’s experienced over the last year-and-a-half on the campaign trial — while also addressing the challenges that lay ahead as he prepares for the possibility of becoming the Palmetto State’s next chief executive.
The veteran prosecutor isn’t taking anything for granted, but recent polls show him cruising over his Democrat rival Jermaine Johnson – an edge that has lifted other candidates on the GOP ticket in what is shaping up to be a difficult year for Republicans nationally.
Aboard his campaign bus, Wilson reflected on what has carried him to the precipice of victory — and what voters expect of him in the event he prevails in Tuesday’s election.

During our conversation, I asked Wilson about the headwinds many Republicans are facing – particularly the struggles of interim U.S. senator Darline Graham Nordone. I also asked him how he intended to pass key affordability reforms at the S.C. State House when so many in his party have contributed to the rising prices consumers are currently facing.
As he has from the beginning of this election cycle, Wilson was willing to answer the tough questions. Not only that, he agreed to do so again next week – irrespective of the outcome of Tuesday’s voting.
With polls opening across the Palmetto State today, keep it tuned to FITSNews for results and analysis of the 2026 statewide election… as well as more conversations with the candidates poised to make history when the ballots are counted.
