Second Amendment supporters in South Carolina got a sense of which candidate would best advocate for them in Washington, D.C. this week when a national gun rights organization lent its support to the senatorial campaign of Republican congressman Ralph Norman.
The political action committee of the National Association for Gun Rights announced its endorsement of Norman in a crowded special GOP primary for the U.S. Senate seat vacated by the sudden death of the late Lindsey Graham last month.
According to the group – which bills itself as “the nation’s largest no-compromise defenders of the Second Amendment” – Norman has a 100% pro-gun voting record and received a perfect score on its candidate survey.
Norman was also praised by the group for sponsoring H. 645, a national constitutional carry bill.

“I am honored to have the support of the National Association for Gun Rights in this important Senate race,” Norman said in a statement. “As a gun owner, I have watched communist Democrats in Congress do everything in their power to strip us of our God-given Second Amendment rights! I won’t let that happen when I’m elected to the United States Senate! I will continue to work hard to ensure our rights are not only protected, but strengthened so we can hunt and protect our families.”
It’s not just congressional Democrats seeking to erode Second Amendment protections, though. As we have previously reported, national gun control groups have been pushing hard at the federal, state and local level to restrict this indispensable constitutional liberty.
South Carolina leaders have pushed back against those efforts. Two years ago, lawmakers passed Act 111 of 2024 – which allowed adults eligible to possess a firearm to carry their weapon without first obtaining a concealed weapons permit (CWP). On the flip side, the law imposed new mandatory minimum sentences to South Carolina’s felon in possession of firearm statutes.
S.C. attorney general Alan Wilson – who recently secured GOP nomination for governor in South Carolina – was a staunch supporter of the legislation.
“This bill protect(s) the Second Amendment and it helps law enforcement and prosecutors crack down on criminals possessing firearms illegally.” Wilson said, adding that “law-abiding citizens shouldn’t be penalized for the behavior of bad guys.”
