Remember Merri Lisa Johnson?
She is (or was) the director of the USC Upstate’s Center for Women’s and Gender Studies – one of the government-subsidized entities spearheading the school’s pro-gay propagandizing.
This week USC-Upstate announced it was shutting down the center – which has drawn the ire of powerful social conservative lawmakers at the S.C. State House. Ostensibly the move is in response to the budget cuts we reported on recently, although one faculty member at the school told The (Charleston, S.C.) City Paper it was “an act of retribution.”
We’re inclined to agree with the anonymous faculty member … although as we’ve stated repeatedly government shouldn’t be in the business of subsidizing any investment in higher education. Or any propaganda related to sexual orientation – gay or straight.
Anyway, Johnson disagrees with that premise … and is protesting her school’s decision.

What Judy Prince is paid to do nothing in Greenville would fund two departments such as Women’s and Gender Studies!! What Jeanne Skul receives as a stipend for travel from her home in Wisconsin would pay for two administrative assistants to stay employed during the summer. How about Tom Moore’s country club membership and other perks??? What programs or job would that save? And what does John Perry do? Why two associate vice chancellors? Does the gold dome needs flushing out, or is this all the mandate of Harris Pastides?

Some people around campus don’t like the athletic department either but the administration fully supports it and never shut it down. In fact just the opposite is true; it receives total financial support at USC Upstate. The breadth of programming contained the department of Women’s and Gender Studies provides invaluable services that will now be unavailable to the campus community. Sign the petition and support academic freedom!
It is time for change at USC Upstate, starting with a change in administration!!

Administration has caved in to these extremist demands and Christian and family values are ostracized on campus. Christians are ignored during faculty searches and existing Christian faculty are pressured to leave, don’t have contracts renewed, and are targeted by liberal faculty and administration for outside religious activities and beliefs. The homosexual and liberal press is constantly pushing their biased agenda in the media. Jenny Arnold has her own personal agenda as well as the Spartanburg Herald.

What does Clif Flynn do beside vacation in China on the taxpayer’s dime? And what does Warren Carson do besides being chief diversity officer? The university creates positions for the most liberal among the faculty to promote the liberal homosexual agenda. And Charley Harrington keeps his big $165,000 salary to teach classes. Jeannie Skul lives in Wisconsin and skypes in for meetings for 4 years. Incompetent employees like John Perry, Louise Erickson, and Judith Prince just keep being moved from job to job instead of being dismissed and hiring competent people. 2 of the best teachers on campus are gone this year because of strong Christian beliefs. The working productive faculty are having their salaries reduced 25% so that Tom can keep his country club and travel perks and probably increase administrative positions again.
You can make your point without dragging a list of individuals through the mud. The individuals you list have dedicated their lives to USC Upstate and the university would not be the exceptional destination it is without them!!!

Now Tom Moore is shutting down the Burroughs Child Development Center. This is a vital unit of the university and many of the faculty would not have come to USC Upstate without this benefit. It is more than a daycare it provides a vital start through the curriculum for all the precious children of the faculty, staff and students. Athletics is the sacred cow and Moore refuses to cut the athletic budget. Students don’t attend games and the community offers little support, yet Moore, David Ferris and Jim Griffis continue to expand the programs and restrict the faculty and campus from the actual expenses of the athletic programs. With CWGS and BCDC being eliminated, soon the only programs of the university will be athletics.
Join us at the fight at the fountain July 2nd. It is time for Tom Moore to hit the road. If Columbia won’t act, then this faculty will!! Vote of no confidence is forthcoming!!!
