Former state lawmaker and circuit court judge Tom Ervin – who is running against S.C. Gov. Nikki Haley in the 2014 general election as an “independent Republican” petition candidate – has infuriated the governor’s campaign organization by accepting an invitation to speak at a GOP event.

Ervin will address the First Tuesday Republican Club of the Midlands this Tuesday (May 6, 2014) at 12:00 p.m. EDT. Tickets for the event (which includes a buffet lunch) are $15.

The group meets at Brookland Banquet and Conference Center (1064 Sunset Blvd, West Columbia, SC 29169). Ervin’s remarks are scheduled to begin shortly before 1:00 p.m.

A source close to Haley’s campaign told FITS the group’s invite to Ervin was “inexcusable.”

“When did Republican groups start offering their microphones to Democrats?” the source asked sarcastically. “When did we start giving them our platform to air their pro-Obamacare, pro-Medicaid expansion views?”

Wait … Medicaid expansion? Haley really wants to get on somebody for that?

Cause last time we checked she was all over it …

Anyway, this isn’t the first time Haley’s supporters have sought to erect distance between Ervin and the word “Republican.” Last month the SCGOP threatened to sure Ervin if he didn’t stop referring to himself as an “independent Republican” in his television commercials.
