Dear Editor:

In August, I wrote you a little concerned that you were over-hyping the Gamecock football program for the 2013 season.

As you may recall, I predicted BEFORE THE SEASON BEGAN that the Gamecocks would go 7-5 because the defense would not be that good – and you placed my letter on your website.

As always, the comments section was full of naysayers, laughing at my prediction and claiming it was impossible and that I could not be a South Carolina fan or graduate of USC. In fact some of the comments suggested I was a Clemson homer disguising myself as a South Carolina alum.

I was hoping my prediction would be wrong. I would have loved for the Gamecocks to finish 12-0 but following the program for 35 years I don’t buy into hype, I buy into the painful truth.

If the Gamecocks drop two of three on the road then come home to face Florida, Mississippi State and Clemson, 7-5 will be fact not fiction. By the way, my prediction was preseason; your predictions are week-to-week. You have the luxury week-to-week to know about injury reports and all the drama.

Additionally, concerning Jadeveon Clowney, D.J. Swearinger was the heart of the USC defense last year, but Clowney got all the hype.

Sincerely,

-Denny Knight

Sorta like investing in plywood and duct tape futures in whatever town Jim Cantori rolls into from June through November…

Maybe this dumbass should wait until we lose another game before pounding his chest. Nothing worse than a self-loathing and menstrating Gamecock fan that’s just dying to say “I told you so.”

Good question. But in this case, it’s the author of the letter.

I said it then, and I’ll say it again: Humility is the best tack. The game is played on the field. Our defensive refrigerators are as big as any other SEC team’s refrigerators. Ours just have to have their ice-makers fixed.
