An Upstate South Carolina mother has been charged with two counts of attempted murder after responding law enforcement officers say they found her two young children “severely injured” and unattended inside a Spartanburg County home.
Deputies from the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) were dispatched to a residence in the 1400 block of Bud Arthur Bridge Road on Saturday (September 26, 2026) shortly after 2:30 p.m. EDT in reference to a welfare check of the two children. Upon arrival, they found a 3-year-old child and a 6-year-old child covered in blood with injuries that appeared to have been caused by a knife, the sheriff’s office said.
The home in which they were found had also been subjected to significant damage.
According to the initial public notice (.pdf), deputies indicated a parent – later identified as 35-year-old Taylor Gosnell – had been “detained for questioning” in connection with the incident. SCSO announced (.pdf) the two attempted murder charges on Sunday (September 27, 2026) following its initial investigation.
Both children were initially transported to Spartanburg Regional Medical Center (SRMC). They have since been transferred to the Greenville Children’s Hospital.

Investigators allege Gosnell attacked the children with a knife and a blunt object during the “night hours” prior to deputies being summoned – allegedly inflicting a combined fifty (50) stab wounds, some of which cut all the way to the bone.
The children were reportedly discovered after the elder child called his grandmother in search of food, police said. The grandmother arrived at the house shortly thereafter with one of Gosnell’s ex-boyfriends.
Gosnell returned to the home during the emergency response, police said, behaving erratically. She was later restrained after attempting to flee the scene.
A judge declined to set bond at an initial hearing on Sunday (September 27, 2026), meaning Gosnell will remain incarcerated at the Spartanburg County Detention Center (SCDC) pending her next hearing. According to court records, she is scheduled to appear before the court on November 12, 2026 at 9:00 a.m. EST.
As for the two children, both remain hospitalized in stable condition – and “are expected to recover from their injuries,” according to the sheriff’s statement. Both have been placed in protective custody. One of the children is facing additional surgeries as a result of the injuries sustained in the attack.
“This remains an active investigation,” the sheriff’s office noted.
Spartanburg County court records show Gosnell was previously charged on February 12, 2024, with two counts of having unlawfully placed a child at risk of harm. FITSNews has submitted FOIA requests for official records to learn the details surrounding these previous charges.
