A former Spartanburg County law enforcement officer was arrested by agents of the South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division (SLED), according to booking records.

Randy Lee Moss Jr., who most recently worked for the Cowpens Police Department (CPD), was booked into the Spartanburg County Detention Facility on Thursday.

Per booking records, the 26-year-old was charged with breach of trust under $2,000. He was released the same day on a personal recognizance bond.

While details surrounding the charge remain limited at this time, a spokesperson for the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) told FITSNews the singular charge stems from conduct that purportedly occurred during Moss’ employment with CPD.

That employment, according to the former officer’s Facebook page, lasted not even two months.

Prior to CPD, the SCSO spokesperson tells FITSNews that Moss clocked just short of three years combined across two separate stints at SCSO — working in the detention center division.

In August 2024, former Spartanburg County Sheriff-turned-federal-inmate Chuck Wright personally presented Moss with a “Life Saving Award.”

SLED did not respond to a request for comment.
