Agents of the South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division (SLED) are reportedly investigating an incident that took place on Sunday evening involving Florence County, S.C. sheriff Kenney Boone.

Details of what happened are not immediately clear, but sources familiar with the situation tell us Boone was on the receiving end of death threats made by a yet-to-be-identified male suspect.  We’re also told a SLED agent was present at the time these threats were made.

Wait … what?

That seems … strange.

If SLED was on the scene … why wasn’t the suspect immediately arrested?

The alleged incident took place shortly after 7:00 p.m. EDT on Sunday at 418 Chatham Place in Florence, which is the home of Boone’s fiancée Anna Hovey.  Hold up … fiancée?  That’s right … Boone and Hovey, whose relationship made waves two years ago, were reportedly engaged to be married earlier this summer.

Based on our prior reporting, we have a theory on what may have happened here … but unfortunately those who were directly involved in the incident aren’t talking (our coverage of Boone’s recent stint in a North Carolina rehabilitation facility has apparently ruffled some feathers locally).

Accordingly, we will have to wait on updates from law enforcement …

It’s okay to criticize elected officials … including calling them vulgar names and wishing them dead.  But you can’t threaten to kill them.  That’s when the right to free speech intrudes upon a greater liberty of another.

Developing …

UPDATESLED is confirming the investigation.  Also, many new details have emerged.
