South Carolina GOP gubernatorial candidate Catherine Templeton picked up some endorsements while campaigning in the Palmetto State’s fifth congressional district on Thursday.
The Lowcountry labor attorney – hoping to win a spot in a “Republican” runoff election next month – announced that she had received the backing of U.S. congressman Ralph Norman and state senator Wes Climer.
“She will exercise the power of the veto to cut spending, cut regulations, and cut the size of government,” Norman said of Templeton. “Catherine epitomizes Winston Churchill’s famous quote that ‘sometimes it is not enough to do our best; we must do what is required.’ I know Catherine Templeton will do what is required for the people of South Carolina.”

Climer focused on Templeton’s efforts in the administration of former governor Nikki Haley.
“Catherine Templeton is a conservative who knows how to get things done,” Climer said. “She was a foot soldier for Nikki Haley in the battle to liberate South Carolina from the cabal of entrenched corruption in Columbia, and will pick up the mantle of conservative reform right where Nikki Haley left off.”
Um … where exactly did Haley leave things off again? Ummm …
Anyway, these endorsements should help Templeton as she looks to stave off a late charge from Upstate businessman John Warren, who is nipping at her (snakeskin) heels in the polls as the race approaches its first climax.

That’s because solid conservatives such as Congressman Norman and Senator Climer realize we must get serious about regaining control of our state government, protecting life, and protecting our Second Amendment rights.”
Templeton and Warren are going toe-to-toe over the final two weeks of the race – both hoping to secure a spot in a GOP runoff against incumbent “Republican” governor Henry McMaster.
In South Carolina primaries featuring three or more candidates, if no one receives a majority of the votes on the first ballot the top two finishers battle it out two weeks later – mano-a-mano.
The first round of voting is June 12 – less than two weeks away. The runoff election – all but a certainty at this point – would be held on June 26.
No wonder things are getting so testy, right?
Given McMaster’s ongoing struggles, our guess is whichever candidate winds up in the runoff against him will beat him – and be the odds-on favorite to win the governor’s mansion in November. After all, it’s been twenty years since a Democrat won the governor’s mansion in the Palmetto State, and more than a decade since a Democrat has been elected statewide.
